  1. 1. Cardiovascular regulation and vascular structure in prehypertension and coronary heart disease

    Författare :Anna Myredal; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :prehypertension; coronary heart disease; repolarization; baroreflex; intima thickness; CABG; non-dippers;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to characterize vascular structure and different aspects of cardiovascular regulation in otherwise healthy subjects with slightly elevated blood pressure and compare to healthy subjects with normotension and also investigate patients with established primary or secondary hypertension and coronary heart disease. Altered cardiac repolarization and arterial baroreflex function has been associated with adverse prognosis and increased risk for ventricular arrhythmias in patients with cardiovascular diseases. 2. 2. Sympathetic function in cardiac disorders.Upon cardio-renal sympathetic activity and effects of nitroglycerin in human heart failure

    Författare :Magnus Petersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :heart failure; renovascular hypertension; sympathetic nervous system; noradrenaline; mortality; renal circulation; cardiovascular physiology; baroreflex; nitroglycerin;

    Sammanfattning : This study explores pathophysiological mechanisms and prognostic implications of sympathetic activation in patients with atherosclerotic renovascular hypertension (RVH) and with chronic heart failure (CHF). Hitherto, it is unknown whether cardiac sympathetic activation is present in patients with RVH, the presence of which could relate to the increased cardiovascular mortality observed in this disorder. 3. 3. Consequences of Arterial Switch Operation in Children Born with Transposition of the Great Arteries

    Författare :Cecilia Falkenberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Transpositon of the great arteries; arterial switch operation; autonomous nerves system; norepinephrine; heart rate variability; cardiopulmonary bypass; piglets;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Background: The introduction of the arterial switch operation (ASO) made it the procedure of choice for surgical correction of transposition of the great arteries. A majority of the sympathetic nerves innervate the heart alongside the great vessels; these are therefore likely to be damaged during the surgical procedure; imposing new challenges and questions that need to be addressed. 4. 4. Psychomotor and cardiorespiratory functions during inert gas sedation

    Författare :Anders Östlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :arterial baroreflex; heart rate; gas density; hyperbaric bradycardia; inert gas; inspiratory loading; narcosis; nitrous oxide; sedation; ventilation;

    Sammanfattning : Relative hypoventilation and bradycardia are commonly observed in both resting and exercising divers. Divers are exposed to a complex environment where there are increases of hydrostatic pressure, gas density and partial pressure of sedating inert gas. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cardiovascular function after long-term bed rest

    Författare :Jonas Spaak; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Microgravity; simulated weightlessness; carotid baroreflex; static exercise; muscle chemoreflex; orthostasis; tilting; leg exercise; blood pressure; heart rate; stroke volume;

    Sammanfattning : On earth, daily activities involve standing, changes of posture and various types of muscle action, all of which challenge the cardiovascular regulation. Removal of the orthostatic stress for a longer period, as during spaceflight or head-down tilt bed rest, consistently results in cardiovascular deconditioning. LÄS MER
