1. Drosophila Sensory Neuroethology
Sammanfattning : Animals, like humans, need to perceive their surroundings via their senses in order to make sensible behavioral decisions, reproduce successfully, and survive. Animals are equipped with audition, vision, thermosensation, hygrosensation, mechanosensation, magnetoception, gustation, and olfaction, which detects physical and chemical changes in their habitats. 2. Quantitative genetic variation in declining plant populations
Sammanfattning : The ecological and genetic effects of habitat fragmentation are an issue of major concern in current conservation biology. Habitat fragmentation results in smaller habitat areas and as a consequence smaller and more isolated populations. Many habitats have become fragmented through human activities such as forestry and agricultural development. LÄS MER
3. Evolutionary history of the butterfly subfamily Satyrinae (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae)
Sammanfattning : I present an overview of the evolutionary history of Satyrinae butterflies (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae). By using Bayesian and cladistic methods, I develop a phylogenetic hypothesis as a basis for studying the evolutionary history of the group. LÄS MER
4. Physiological integration and morphological plasticity in extensive clonal plants
Sammanfattning : Clonal plants show a large variation in physiological integration, i.e. the translocation of resources among ramets within the clone. LÄS MER
5. Behaviour under predation risk - antipredator strategies, behavioural syndromes and sex-specific responses in aquatic prey
Sammanfattning : In many natural ecosystems, predation is well recognized as a strong evolutionary force, and predator-mediated selection has been demonstrated to induce changes in prey morphology, life history and behaviour. In my thesis, I have focused on behavioural responses in aquatic prey under the risk of predation. LÄS MER
