11. Root-associated microbial communities of different strawberry cultivars as influenced by soil type, Verticillium dahliae Kleb. and biofumigation
Sammanfattning : Rhizosphere microorganisms and their interactions with plant roots play pivotal roles in controlling plant nutrition and health. Extremely high levels of soil microbial diversity, coupled with low levels of cultivability, complicate the study of these organisms but better mechanistic understanding of their interactions with each other and with plant roots is a prerequisite for development of sustainable management strategies to improve nutrient acquisition and control pathogens. 12. Biodiversity-ecosystem function in a willow biomass production system : tree productivity, litter decomposition and fungal community
Sammanfattning : The relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem function is an important issue in ecology. Stands of Salix (willow) are suitable model systems to study this relationship. Salix and other crops are mainly grown in monoculture in agricultural systems. LÄS MER
13. Ecology and management of crop pollination and pest control : insights from red clover seed production
Sammanfattning : The agricultural landscape has gone through large changes to meet increasing demands for food. This has led to major biodiversity declines, while effects on ecosystem services that support agricultural productivity, such as pollination and pest control, remain less studied. LÄS MER
14. Diversified agroecosystems for biodiversity and ecosystem services : Ecological intensification of faba bean cropping under land use and climate change
Sammanfattning : Loss of natural habitats and lack of continuous floral resources in intensive agricultural landscapes limit the population growth of ecosystem service providers, such as pollinators. Weakened ecosystem service delivery and climate change stressors contribute to crop yield instability. LÄS MER
15. Impact of Brassicaceae cover crops on pea root rot (Aphanomyces euteiches) in subsequent peas
Sammanfattning : The soil-borne pathogen Aphanomyces euteiches Drechs is among the greatest threats to pea production world-wide. This pathogen can persist in soil for many years without a host plant and is very difficult to control due to its long-lived oospores and to environmental restrictions on fungicide application.
