  1. 6. Studies of Spinal Motor Control Networks in Genetically Modified Mouse Models

    Författare :Henrik Gezelius; Klas Kullander; Ted Ebendal; Martyn Goulding; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acetyl choline; central nervous system; central pattern generator; Cre recombinase; development; genetic screen; glutamate; interneuron; motor neuron; mouse; mouse genetics; movement; network; neuronal network; nicotinic receptors; physiology; Renshaw cell; rhythm; spinal cord; transmitter; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi; Molecular neurobiology; Molekylär neurobiologi; Neurophysiology; Neurofysiologi; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi; medicinsk utvecklings- och neurobiologi; Developmental Neurosciences;

    Sammanfattning : Spinal neurons are important in several aspects motor control. For example, the neurons essential for locomotor movements reside in the ventral spinal cord. In this thesis, different motor control functions are being related to neuronal populations defined by their common expression of a gene. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Functional Aspects of Peripheral and Spinal Cord Neurons Involved in Itch and Pain

    Författare :Bejan Aresh; Malin Lagerström; Klas Kullander; Martin Schmelz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :mGluR7; anaphylaxis; Grpr; Penk; Pdyn; Cre line; BAC cloning; spinal cord; transgenic line; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : We have investigated the role of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 7 (mGluR7) and the gastrin releasing peptide receptor (Grpr) population that are involved at different levels of itch transmission. We found that mGuR7 deficient mice displayed an anaphylaxis-like behavior when provoked with histamine. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Early life experiences and alcohol use in youth : An emerging role of the Vesicular Glutamate Transporters

    Författare :Maria Vrettou; Erika Comasco; Ingrid Nylander; Kent W. Nilsson; Åsa Wallén-Mackenzie; Roberto Ciccocioppo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :alcohol; early-life stress; brain; early adulthood; expression; DNA methylation; glutamate; Vesicular Glutamate Transporters;

    Sammanfattning : Initiation of alcohol consumption usually takes place during adolescence, a period characterized by a plethora of physical and emotional changes. Towards early adulthood, hazardous drinking patterns can emerge and potentially lead to the development of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). LÄS MER

  4. 9. The plantaris tendon in relation to the Achilles tendon in midportion Achilles tendinopathy : studies on morphology, innervation and signalling substances

    Författare :Christoph Spang; Sture Forsgren; Håkan Alfredson; Patrik Danielson; Karim Khan; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Plantaris tendon; Achilles tendon; Achilles tendinopathy; innervation; morphology;

    Sammanfattning : Midportion Achilles tendinopathy (tendinosis) is a troublesome painful condition, often characterised by pain, local swelling, tenderness and functional disability. Despite extensive research, the pathogenesis is poorly understood and treatment remains challenging. Features related to the peritendinous connective tissue can be of importance. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Somatosensory Circuits in the Central Nervous System

    Författare :Hannah M. Weman; Malin C. Lagerström; Sarah E. Ross; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glycine receptor alpha 3; urocortin 3; vesicular monoaminergic transporter 2; nociception; pruriception; spinal cord; somatosensory cortex; DREADD; rabies tracing; transcriptomics; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Spinal glycinergic neurons prevent spontaneous sensations of pain and itch, and development of persistent pain and itch conditions. The glycine receptor alpha 3 subunit (GLRA3) is suggested to be involved in certain inflammatory models, but not in acute nociception. LÄS MER
