   Sammanfattning : Smoking remains a leading cause of premature, preventable death in South Africa killing 44 000 South Africans each year. Through the introduction of comprehensive tobacco control policies, the South African government has tried to reduce the death toll and a significant reduction in tobacco use has been recorded since its peak in the 1990’s.
