1. Pharmacometrics Modelling in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus : Implications on Study Design and Diabetes Disease Progression
Sammanfattning : Pharmacometric modelling is widely used in many aspects related to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), for instance in the anti-diabetes drug development, and in quantifying the disease progression of T2DM.The aim of this thesis were to improve the design of early phase anti-diabetes drug development studies with the focus on the power to identify mechanism of drug action (MoA), and to characterize and quantify the progression from prediabetes to overt diabetes, both the natural progression and the progression with diet and exercise interventions, using pharmacometrics modelling. 2. Genetic interaction between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : There are two major types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Similarly characterized by hyperglycaemia and long term micro- and macrovascular complications, type 1 and type 2 diabetes have different underlying pathophysiologic processes. In Scandinavia, type 1 diabetes is common; type 2 diabetes accounts for 85% of all cases with diabetes. LÄS MER
3. Search for MODY and Type 2 diabetes genes
Sammanfattning : Diabetes is a heterogeneous disease influenced by both environmental and genetic factors. Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is considered as a subform of Type 2 diabetes, which is inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion and expressed at childhood or early adult life. LÄS MER
4. Estrogen and its receptors in adipose tissue from women and men : Associations with age, adiposity and type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : Obesity and its complications, such as insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (T2D), are leading causes of morbidity and mortality globally. Adipose tissue is important for whole-body homeostasis, functioning as an energy storage reservoir and an endocrine organ. LÄS MER
5. Integrating multi-omics for type 2 diabetes : Data science and big data towards personalized medicine
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a complex metabolic disease characterized by multi-tissue insulin resistance and failure of the pancreatic β-cells to secrete sufficient amounts of insulin. Cells recruit transcription factors (TF) to specific genomic loci to regulate gene expression that consequently affects the protein and metabolite abundancies. LÄS MER
