    Sammanfattning : Experiences early in life or during adolescence modulate neuronal networks in the immature brain and consequently lay the foundation for future susceptibility or resilience towards psychiatric disorders. The objective in this thesis is to understand, in part, how the surrounding environment shapes the brain of a young individual. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Childhood bereavement, stress resilience, and cancer risk : an integrated register-based approach

    Författare :Beatrice Kennedy; Katja Fall; Fang Fang; Unnur Valdimarsdottír; Scott Montgomery; Meena Kumari; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alcohol; bereavement; cancer; drug use; epidemiology; health behaviour; psychological resilience; smoking; stress;

    Sammanfattning : Accumulating evidence suggests that psychosocial stress and susceptibility to stressful exposures – stress resilience – influence the risk of various health outcomes, but the potential link with cancer occurrence is unclear. The aims of this thesis were to test if loss of a close relative, a marker of severe psychological stress, and stress resilience measured during late adolescence are associated with cancer risk later in life, as well as to explore potential underlying mechanisms. 4. 4. Heart Rate Variability in Stress-related Fatigue, Adolescent Anxiety and Depression and its Connection to Lifestyle

    Författare :Erik Olsson; Lennart Melin; Ulf Lundberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :heart rate variability; autonomic nervous system; vagal tone; allostatic load; stress; fatigue; anxiety; depression; continuous performance; attention; cardiovascular risk; lifestyle; physical activity;

    Sammanfattning : Heart rate varies constantly as a consequence of activity in the sympathetic and parasympathetic autonomic nervous systems (SNS and PNS). In short-term recordings, heart rate variability (HRV) is mostly related to the inhibitory activity of the vagal nerves, which are part of the PNS. LÄS MER
