  1. 1. PDEModelica – A High-Level Language for Modeling with Partial Differential Equations

    Författare :Levon Saldamli; Peter Fritzson; Bernhard Bachmann; Francesco di Casella; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mathematical modeling; PDEModelica; Modelica; object-oriented modeling; equation-based modeling; declarative modeling; high-level modeling languages; mathematical modeling languages; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes work on a new high-level mathematical modeling language and framework called PDEModelica for modeling with partial differential equations. It is an extension to the current Modelica modeling language for object-oriented, equation-based modeling based on differential and algebraic equations. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Modeling Collective Decision-Making in Animal Groups

    Författare :Boris Granovskiy; David J. T. Sumpter; Mary R. Myerscough; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; collective animal behavior; collective intelligence; swarm intelligence; wisdom of crowds; mathematical modeling; stochastic modeling; agent-based modeling; Markov chain models;

    Sammanfattning : Many animal groups benefit from making decisions collectively. For example, colonies of many ant species are able to select the best possible nest to move into without every ant needing to visit each available nest site. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Spatial Spread of Organisms : Modeling ecological and epidemiological processes

    Författare :Tom Lindström; Uno Wennergren; Colleen Webb; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Spatial kernel; Spatially explicit modeling; Disease transmission; Animal movements; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the spread of organisms in both ecological and epidemiological contexts. In most of the studies presented, displacement is modeled with a spatial kernel function, which is characterized by scale and shape. These are measured by the net squared displacement (or kernel variance) and kurtosis, respectively. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Enhancing Direct Searches for Dark Matter : Spatial-Temporal Modeling and Explicit Likelihoods

    Författare :Bart Eduard Jan Pelssers; Jan Conrad; Jochen Schieck; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dark matter; direct detection; statistical analysis; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Astronomical and cosmological observations on different scales point to the existence of dark matter. In the current cosmological paradigm this dark matter accounts for about 26% of the energy-density of the universe, yet has not been directly observed. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Computationally efficient methods in spatial statistics : Applications in environmental modeling

    Författare :David Bolin; Matematisk statistik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, computationally efficient statistical models for large spatial environmental data sets are constructed. In the first part of the thesis, a method for estimating spatially dependent temporal trends is developed. A space-varying regression model, where the regression coefficients for the spatial locations are dependent, is used. LÄS MER
