31. Embodied simulation as off-line representation
Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis argues that a key to understanding the embodiment of cognition is the “sharing” of neural mechanisms between sensorimotor processes and higher-level cognitive processes as described by simulation theories. Simulation theories explain higher-level cognition as (partial) simulations or emulations of sensorimotor processes through the re-activation of neural circuitry also active in bodily perception, action, and emotion. 32. Shoulder pain after stroke: prevalence, contributing factors and consequences in daily life
Sammanfattning : Post stroke shoulder pain, PSSP, is a common type of pain after stroke, but still further knowledge of this condition is needed. An increased knowledge of prevalence, contributing factors and impact on the individual’s life could enhance the possibility to find more effective treatments and therefore more studies are needed. 33. The effect of enriched environment on gene expression and stroke recovery
Sammanfattning : Stroke is the third leading cause of death and the major course of long-term disabilities in industrialized countries. Most surviving stroke patients show some degree of spontaneous recovery, but persistent symptoms in sensorimotor and cognitive functions are common. LÄS MER
34. Generative models for action generation and action understanding
Sammanfattning : The question of how to build intelligent machines raises the question of how to rep-resent the world to enable intelligent behavior. In nature, this representation relies onthe interplay between an organism’s sensory input and motor input. Action-perceptionloops allow many complex behaviors to arise naturally. LÄS MER
35. The circuit and synaptic organization of the basal ganglia output : mechanistic insights on movement disorders and action control
Sammanfattning : Understanding the neural circuitry underlying movement is a neuroscientific challenge that promises to help refining currently available treatments for movement disorders. Key structures for movement and action control are the basal ganglia nuclei, whose complexity has only just started to be resolved. LÄS MER
