6. A Risk or a Resource? : A Study of the Swedish State’s Shifting Perception and Handling of Minority Religious Communities between 1952-2019
Sammanfattning : In Sweden, as in many other European countries, governments and other public authorities increasingly seem to view religious communities as an important resource that should be included in welfare provision and help combat problems that societies are facing, thereby intentionally or unintentionally bringing religion back into the public arena. Sammanfattning : In this study, I address the relationship between religion and politics in the Nordic countries, 1988–2012, against a background of increasing religious diversity alongside more or less continuous relationships between church and state. My aim is to analyse possible changes in the way religion is referred to by Nordic parliamentary parties, and in the way these parties use religion as a means to societal cohesion. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : This study examines the Church of Sweden Mission and the encounter between Swedish missionaries, African Christians and evangelists in Natal and Zululand in the early twentieth century. 9. Rituals of a Secular Nation : Shinto Normativity and the Separation of Religion and State in Postwar Japan
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores how the concept of “religion” has been interpreted and negotiated in postwar Japanese courts of law, with a particular focus on its relationship to the adjacent concept “Shinto.” Particular attention is given to the landmark rulings by the Supreme Court on the Tsu Groundbreaking Ceremony case in 1977 and the Ehime Tamagushiryō case in 1997.
