  1. 1. Fatty acid methyl esters as reactive diluents in solvent-borne thermally cured coil-coatings

    Författare :Katarina Johansson; Mats Johansson; Mats Jonsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fatty acids; Reactive diluents; Coatings; Thermal curing; Transesterification; Film properties; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Sammanfattning : This work describes how a fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) derived from a vegetable oil can be introduced as reactive diluent in a solvent-borne thermally cured coil-coating system. The evaluated reactive diluent, rape seed methyl ester (RME), has been evaluated both in a fully formulated clear coat system and via model studies. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Thermally cured coil-coatings utilizing novel resins and fatty acid methyl esters as reactive diluents

    Författare :Katarina Johansson; Mats Johansson; Rolf van Benthem; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coatings; Coil-coatings; Thermal cure; Reactive diluents; Fatty acids; Transesterification; Hyperbranched polyester resins; Film properties; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Sammanfattning : Solvent-borne thermally cured coil-coating resins contain large amounts of volatile organic solvents in order to obtain suitable flow for film application. This work describes how the expensive and environmental hazardous volatile organic solvent content of a solvent-borne thermally cured polyester/melamine coil-coating system can be reduced by introduction of fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) as reactive diluents and modification of the polyester binder resin. 3. 3. Influence of the fatty acid pattern on the drying of linseed oils

    Författare :Cecilia Stenberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The interest in renewable resources due to environmentalfactors has increased the interest to use new VOC-free linseedoil qualities together with reactive diluents for coatingapplications. The drying of two linseed oils, oilAwith a high content (74,2 %) of linoleic acid (C18:2)and oilB, a more traditional linseed oil with a high amount(55,2-60,4 %) of linolenic acid (C18:3), was followed in orderto reveal how the structural variations of the oils fatty acidpattern and the addition of the fatty acid methyl ester of oilAas a reactive diluent (0, 20 40 wt%) can change thedrying performances of the oils and their final filmproperties. 4. 4. Chemo-Enzymatic Epoxidation of Unsaturated Fatty Acids

    Författare :Cecilia Orellana Coca Åkerman; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; solvent-free process.; Candida antarctica lipase B esterification; chemo-enzymatic epoxidation; Unsaturated fatty acids; epoxides;

    Sammanfattning : Epoxy fatty acids are useful molecules and find a number of applications e.g. as PVC plasticisers and stabilisers, additives in polyurethane production, reactive diluents in paints, corrosion protection agents, etc. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Exploring fatty acid derivatives from renewable resources as raw materials for coating applications

    Författare :Samer Nameer; Mats Johansson; Mats Martinelle; Dean Webster; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; epoxy; vegetable oils; birch bark; thermoset; bio-based; fatty acid; renewable resources; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : In the work presented herein, epoxy fatty acid derivatives were explored in the formation of thermosets for coating applications. The epoxy fatty acid derivatives were obtained from renewable resources such as birch tree bark and epoxidized linseed oil. LÄS MER
