  1. 1. Brain tumors in children - National population-based studies on classification, diagnostics and long-term follow-up

    Författare :Elizabeth Schepke; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatric CNS tumors; population-based; DNA methylation; profiling; CNS-PNET; re-evaluation; incidence rate; long-term outcome; classification; Pediatric CNS tumors; Population-based; DNA methylation; Profiling; CNS-PNET; Re-evaluation; Incidence rate; Long-term outcome; Classification;

    Sammanfattning : Although the prognosis for pediatric tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) has improved over time it is urgent to reduce mortality and improve long-term quality of life for survivors. With this aim, the first step is to identify the correct diagnosis in order to choose the right therapy and avoid unnecessary treatment. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Re-evaluation of exercise-induced muscle soreness : an immunohistochemical and ultrastructural study

    Författare :Ji-Guo Yu; Bengt Saltin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anatomy; Anatomi; Anatomy; Anatomi;

    Sammanfattning : Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is a familiar experience for the elite and novice athletes. Symptoms can range from muscle tenderness to severe deliberating pain. It is generally believed that eccentric contractions produce higher tension on muscle fibres and connective tissues than concentric and isometric contractions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Re-evaluation of methods to identify individuals with increased risk of caries

    Författare :Anna Senneby; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; caries; risk assessment; diagnostic accuracy; methodology; acid tolerance; reliability; agreement;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate methods used to identify individuals with increased risk of coronal caries lesion development. The specific aims were to:•evaluate the accuracy of different methods used to identify individuals with increased risk of developing dental coronal caries lesions (study I)•design and pilot a novel classification system for the assessment of caries lesion progression in bitewing radiography and to report rater agreement of the system (study II)•assess intra-individual differences in biofilm acid-tolerance between different tooth surfaces and inter-individual variation as well as stability of acid tolerance over time (study III)•assess diagnostic accuracy of two established methods and a candidate method to identify adolescents with increased risk of dental coronal caries lesion development (study IV). 4. 4. Beyond carbon-limitation : A re-evaluation of the ecological role of photorespiration and direct oxygen photoreduction in seagrasses

    Författare :Pimchanok Buapet; Mats Björk; Ilana Berman-Frank; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon limitation; Chlorophyll fluorescence; Electron transport rate; Irradiance; Mehler reaction; Non-photochemical quenching; Photorespiration; Photosynthetic activity; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Seagrasses living in shallow coastal waters are regularly subjected to changes in environmental conditions including the two essential factors for photosynthesis: dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and irradiance. This thesis focuses on the photosynthetic responses of seagrasses to carbon limitation induced by community metabolism and/or high light intensities. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neonatal hip instability. The anterior-dynamic ultrasound method. Population screening and re-evaluation of some aetiological factors

    Författare :John E. Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hip dislocation congenital; ultrasound examination; breech presentation; delivery hormone;

    Sammanfattning : To evaluate neonatal hip instability, the values for the physiologically normal movement of the femoral head by provocation were determined by an anterior-dynamic ultrasound method. The maximal movement of the femoral head with the acetabulum at provocation was 6.0, 6.6 and 6. LÄS MER
