  1. 1. Anatomy and taxonomy of cetrarioid lichens

    Författare :Arne Thell; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; taxonomi; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; phytogeography; morphology; taxonomy; Systematic botany; pycnoconidia; ascus structures; anatomy; Systematisk botanik; cetrarioid lichens; Ascomycotina; Parmeliaceae; morfologi; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .;

    Sammanfattning : The anatomy of the cetrarioid lichens (Parmeliaceae) has been studied, and the taxonomy revised. Special attention has been paid to reproductive structures, in particular the asci and pycnoconidia. Two types of asci are recognized. The Cetraria type is narrowly clavate, bears an amyloid ring structure in the tholus, and has a small axial body. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Influences of paratendinous innervation and non-neuronal substance P in tendinopathy : studies on human tendon tissue and an experimental model of Achilles tendinopathy

    Författare :Gustav Andersson; Patrik Danielson; Sture Forsgren; Håkan Alfredson; David A. Hart; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Achilles tendon; tendinopathy; tendinosis; paratenon; innervation; substance P; neuropeptides; neurokinin-1 receptor; Anatomy; Anatomi; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Sammanfattning : Pain of the musculoskeletal system is one of the most common reasons for people seeking medical attention, and is also one of the major factors that prevent patients from working. Chronic tendon pain, tendinopathy, affects millions of workers world-wide, and the Achilles tendon is an important structure often afflicted by this condition. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The neuronal and non-neuronal substance P, VIP and cholinergic systems in the colon in ulcerative colitis

    Författare :Maria Jönsson; Sture Forsgren; Örjan Norrgård; Johan D Söderholm; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ulcerative colitis; neuropeptides; substance P; VIP; non-neuronal cholinergic system; Anatomy; Anatomi; Surgery; Kirurgi; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Sammanfattning : Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic relapsing inflammatory bowel disease. Neuropeptides, especially vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and substance P (SP), have long been considered to play key roles in UC. Among other effects, these neuropeptides have trophic and growth-modulating as well as wound-healing effects. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Neuroprotection and axonal regeneration after peripheral nerve injury

    Författare :Dag Welin; Lev N. Novikov; Lars B. Dahlin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dorsal root ganglion; Motoneuron; Axonal reaction; Peripheral nerve injury; Nerve regeneration; N-acetylcysteine; Hand surgery; Handkirurgi; Anatomy; Anatomi; anatomi; Human Anatomy; handkirurgi; hand surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Following microsurgical reconstruction of injured peripheral nerves, severed axons are able to undergo spontaneous regeneration. However, the functional result is always unsatisfactory with poor sensory recovery and reduced motor function. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Fish Lenses : Anatomy and Optics

    Författare :Tomasz M Kozłowski; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasticity; Development; Cellular structure; Lens fiber cells; Modeling; Laser Scanning; Schlieren photography; Fast Fourier Transform FFT ;

    Sammanfattning : I have investigated some of the biological regulatory mechanisms governing the development of crystalline lenses. I used fish as model animals because they possess optically interesting lenses, while the geometrical simplicity of fish lenses allows for studies that are difficult or impossible with the lenses of other animals.
