  1. 6. Changes in human uterine innervation in term pregnancy and labor occurence and roles of neurotrophins and TRPV1

    Författare :Berith Karlsson Tingåker; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Uterus; corpus uteri; cervix uteri; pregnancy; labor pain; neurotrophins; NGF; TRPV1; sensory corpuscles; human.;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: Cervical ripening, is a prerequisite for successful labor, which is often very painful and involves an inflammatory reaction. However, little is presently known con-cerning nerve-related changes in the human uterus during labor and the fundamental hy-pothesis tested here was that labor pain emanates primarily from the cervix uteri. 2. 7. Amphiphilic Polymers as Additives in Biomedical Polyurethanes. Surface Properties and Morphology

    Författare :Maria Kober; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polymer micelles; phase separation; migration; poly ethylene oxide ; surface enrichment; morphology; polyurethane; additives; Surface modification; amphiphilic polymers; polymer blends; Polymer technology; biopolymers; Polymerteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this work was to achieve surface modification of two biomedical polyurethanes and one poly(urethane urea) through the addition of small amounts of amphiphilic copolymers in solution. The matrix polymers used were the poly(ether urethane)s Pellethane 2363-80AE (P80) and 2363-75D (P75) and a poly(ether urethane urea) similar to Biomer (PUUR). LÄS MER

  3. 8. Observations on morphology and function of cutaneous and subcutaneous sensory mechanoreceptors : an experimental study in mammals

    Författare :Birgit Stark; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :mechanoreceptors; somatosensory organisation; blood-nerve barrier; Glucose transporter-1; nerve regeneration; TGF-ß family; neurotrophin receptors;

    Sammanfattning : Tactile sensory discrimination is dependent upon an intact system of peripheral mechanoreceptors, their nerve fibre afferents with cell bodies in the dorsal root ganglion and the dorsal column-medial lemniscal system which relays tactile information from the skin to the cortex. Injury to any part of the afferent pathways leads to compromised mechanoreceptive perception. LÄS MER

  4. 9. The use of monogenic disease to study basal and disease associated mechanisms with focus on NGF dependent pain insensitivity and ISCU myopathy

    Författare :Elin Larsson; Monica Holmberg; Geoff Woods; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; monogenic; disease; NGF; receptor; pain insensitivity; ISCU; myopathy; splicing; molecular medicine medical sciences ; molekylär medicin medicinska vetenskaper ;

    Sammanfattning : Monogenic diseases make excellent models for the study of gene functions and basal cellular mechanisms in humans. The aim of this thesis was to elucidate how genetic mutations affect the basal cellular mechanisms in the monogenic diseases Nerve growth factor (NGF) dependent pain insensitivity and Iron-Sulphur cluster assembly protein U (ISCU) myopathy. 5. 10. Changes in sensory systems during aging : an experimental study in the rat

    Författare :Esbjörn Bergman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :aging; behavior; primary sensory neuron; dorsal root ganglion; mystacial pad; sensory nerve ending; axon dystrophy; neuropeptides; B4; RT97; CTB; neurotrophins; trk; p75NTR; GFR[alpha]; RET; protein; mRNA;

    Sammanfattning : Aging is associated with sensorimotor disturbances, including increased proprioceptive thresholds. The present study aimed to clarify the occurrence of structural and biochemical alterations in sensory systems of behaviorally characterized aged rats. LÄS MER
