16. Allopregnanolone effects in women : clinical studies in relation to the menstrual cycle, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and oral contraceptive use
Sammanfattning : Background: Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) affects 3–8% of women in fertile ages. Combined oral contraceptives (OCs) are widely used and some users experience adverse mood effects. The cyclicity of PMDD symptoms coincides with increased endogenous levels of allopregnanolone after ovulation. LÄS MER
17. Characterization of Impaired Glucose Tolerance - Insulin Sensitivity, Islet Function and Metabolic Risk Factors
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a three-year prospective study on metabolic characteristics of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and the regulation of insulin sensitivity versus islet function in relation to changes in glucose tolerance. 108 non-diabetic women aged 57-58 years were randomly selected from a population of women born in 1935 with a high prevalence of IGT. 18. Oral glucose tolerance test as a prognostic tool in patients with acute coronary syndrome
Sammanfattning : Background: Disturbances of glucose metabolism such as type 2 diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance are established risk factors for cardiovascular disease and mortality. The disturbances lead to hyperglycaemia and the most common methods to diagnose hyperglycaemia are HbA1c, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and fasting plasma glucose (FPG). LÄS MER
19. Impaired glucose tolerance in ischemic heart disease
Sammanfattning : Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) and impaired glucose tolerance test (IGT) are well known risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Individuals with IGT, a prediabetic state, are asymptomatic during many years and they often remain undiagnosed until they have developed overt diabetes or cardiovascular complications. LÄS MER
20. Childhood Obesity and Islet Function
Sammanfattning : The prevalence of childhood obesity and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) has increased during recent decades. T2DM is accompanied with functional changes in the islets of Langerhans, which can be identified early in the pathogenesis. LÄS MER
