  1. 1. Renal Dysfunction and Cardiovascular Disease

    Författare :Inga Soveri; Bengt Fellström; Lars Lind; Ola Samuelsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Internal medicine; renal dysfunktion; cardiovascular disease; risk factor; mortality; endothelial dysfunction; arterial stiffness; oxidative stress; inflammation; renal transplantation; haemodialysis; general population; Invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Kidney dysfunction increases cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The mechanisms for the risk increase seem to involve a combination of traditional and non-traditional CVD risk factors.We studied renal dysfunction as CVD and mortality risk factor in middle-aged men free from diabetes and CVD. 2. 2. Endothelial cells : dysfunction and repair mechanisms

    Författare :Elzafir Elsheikh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Endothelial cells; endothelial progenitor cells; Wegener s granulomatosis; atherosclerosis; myocardial infarction; menstruation cycle; stromal cell-derived factor-1;

    Sammanfattning : Endothelial cells (ECs) are crucial component of the normal vascular wall, providing an interface between the bloodstream and surrounding tissue of the blood vessel wall. Endothelial progenitors cells (EPCs) circulate in the blood and migrate to regions of the circulatory system with injured endothelium and ischemic tissues. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Vascular Interactions in Innate Immunity and Immunothrombosis: : Models of Endothelial Protection

    Författare :Sofia Nordling; Peetra Magnusson; Paul Kubes; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endothelial cells; Thrombosis; Innate immunity; Immunothrombosis; Thromboinflammation; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The phenomenon known as immunothrombosis has garnered increased attention over the last few years. Much work has been done to characterize the cross talk between hemostasis and the innate immune system. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The role of leptin in endothelial dysfunction and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Manuel Cruz Gonzalez Garcia; Stefan Söderberg; Jan Engvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; leptin; obesity; endothelial dysfunction; cardiovascular disease; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Objective:  Obesity has become the leading cause of mortality worldwide; however, the fundamental pathophysiology underlying this association remains unclear. The discovery of adipokines, i.e., cytokines produced by adipose cells (adipocytes), revealed that adipose tissue is a highly endocrine organ, thus opening new lines of investigation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Endothelial Barrier Dysfunction in Multiple Organ Injury. An Experimental Study in Rats

    Författare :Xiaoming Deng; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; Endothelial barrier permeability; Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome; Zymosan; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) is still the leading cause of mortality in the surgical intensive care unit. The effect on among others endothelial barrier permeability, reticuloendothelial function, organ function and protease-antiprotease activities was studied following a variety of challenges, especially over-activation of macrophages induced by intraperitoneal administration of zymosan.
