1. Predictors of Alcohol Misuse : Role of MAOA Genotype, Methylation, Transcription, and Negative and Positive Environmental factors
Sammanfattning : Alcohol misuse is a risk factor for alcohol use disorder (AUD). Gene-environment interactions contribute to the risk or resilience for AUD. A functional polymorphism in the promoter of the monoamine oxidase A gene (MAOA-uVNTR), in interaction with negative environment (Eneg), is associated with alcohol misuse and AUD. LÄS MER
2. Maf transcription factors in beta cell function
Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus is metabolic disorder caused by a defect or lack of beta cell-produced insulin that controls blood glucose homeostasis. In addition to glucose, insulin secretion is regulated by the autonomic nervous system (ANS); the neurotransmitter acetylcholine as well as monoamines, such as dopamine, serotonin, melatonin and norepinephrine. 3. Genetic studies of depressive symptoms
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on depressive symptoms particularly in late fife. Depressive symptoms are associated with serious negative outcomes a greater level of disability and with excess morbidity and mortality. LÄS MER
4. The Monoamine Oxidase A Gene and Antisocial Outcomes : An Examination of Genetic, Epigenetic, and Environmental Factors
Sammanfattning : Background. Antisocial behaviour involves violation of the basic rights of others or social norms or rules. Such behaviours are indexed in diagnoses such as conduct disorder (CD) in adolescence and antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) in adulthood, which are typified by comorbidity with mood, anxiety, and substance misuse disorders. 5. Depression and Antisocial Behaviour in Adolescents : Influence of Social Status, Shaming, and Gene-Environment Interaction
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigated (1) social status and shaming experiences in relation to aggressive behaviour and depression, and (2) gene-environment interactions between two genetic polymorphisms related to the serotonergic system – MAOA-VNTR and 5HTTLPR – and experiences of maltreatment in relation to delinquent behaviour and depression among adolescents. The four included studies are based on questionnaire data from the Survey of Adolescent Life in Vestmanland 2006 (SALVe-2006). LÄS MER
