1. The Structural Basis for Magnetic Order in New Manganese Compounds
Sammanfattning : Materials with new or improved properties are crucial for technological development. To provide the foundation for future successful products, it is important to prepare and characterise new chemical compounds that could show unusual properties. LÄS MER
2. On the Zero and Low Field Vortex Dynamics : An Experimental Study of Type-II Superconductors
Sammanfattning : Dynamic properties of type-II superconductors have been experimentally studied in zero and low magnetic fields using SQUID magnetometry and I–V measurements. In zero magnetic field close to the critical temperature, the physical properties of type-II superconductors are dominated by spontaneously created vortices. 3. Nanomagnetic and Micromagnetic Properties of Rocks Minerals and Sulphide Oxidation Products
Sammanfattning : Magnetic and related properties of rocks and products from oxidation of sulphide minerals have been investigated with magnetisation measurements (rocks and oxidation products), magnetic force microscopy (rocks), scanning electron microscopy (rocks and oxidation products), transmission electron microscopy (oxidation products), Mössbauer spectroscopy (oxidation products) and powder X-ray diffraction (oxidation products). The investigations have shown the following: During thermal oxidation of pyrite (cubic FeS2) and marcasite (orthorombic FeS2) in air, nano-crystals of a-Fe2O3 and g-Fe2O3 were formed. LÄS MER
4. Mössbauer spectroscopy on selectred magnetic compounds
Sammanfattning : The applications of magnetic materials are related to their magnetic and crystal structure as well as electronic properties. In this thesis, mainly experimental methods have been focussed on novel materials and bulk materials. LÄS MER
5. Very thin magnets : X-rays, lasers and spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : The magnetic properties of transition metal films are investigated using synchrotron based x-ray absorption and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. These techniques are elementally selective and may therefore be used, either to probe a specific element in a multicomponent system or, as very sensitive magnetometers. LÄS MER
