11. Equilibrium and Nonequilibrium Properties of Nonionic Surfactant Membranes
Sammanfattning : An extensive investigation of the multilamellar vesicles (La*), lamellar (La), and multiply connected sponge (L3) phase formed in surfactant systems is presented in this thesis. These membrane structures were studied using surfactant systems containing poly(oxyethylene) alkyl ethers, n-CnH2n+1(OCH2CH2) mOH, commonly abbreviated as CnEm. LÄS MER
12. Characterisation of Aqueous Solutions, Liquid Crystals and Solid State of Non-ionic Polymers in Association with Amphiphiles and Drugs
Sammanfattning : Cellulose ethers and polyethylene glycols are used in drug formulations as water swelling or water soluble matrices. Polar lipids, for example monoglycerides, and surfactants can be used to solubilise hydrophobic or amphiphilic drugs and to formulate potential drug delivery vehicles such as emulsions, liposomes and cubic phases. 13. Measuring Material Properties through Gradient Based NMR: Diffusion and Imaging
Sammanfattning : In this work new methods based Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) have been developed to measure different kinds of structural properties in soft materials. The advantage of using NMR as a technique to measure material properties is that it is non-destructive, which makes it possible to measure on the actual piece of material that will be used for the application. 14. Dendritic morphology and ultimate tensile strength of pearlitic lamellar graphite iron
Sammanfattning : The continued development, of cylinder blocks and cylinder heads for heavy truck engines that are made of lamellar graphite iron (LGI) is focused on achieving high ultimate tensile strength (UTS) whilst conforming to environmental regulations. The purpose of this work is to further improve the tensile strength as well as the predictive engineering tools for optimization of LGI aimed to enhance the efforts for producing lighter and sustainable components without sacrificing performance. 15. Ternary Block Copolymer - Water - "Oil" Systems: Effects of "Oil" Type and Block Size on Phase Behaviour and Structure
Sammanfattning : It has recently been established in our group that amphiphilic block copolymers consisting of a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic part can self-assemble in the presence of selective solvents (“water” and “oil”) into a variety of different solution and lyotropic liquid crystalline microstructures. The effects of the “oil” type, hydrophilic block size and hydrophobic block type on the phase behavior and microstructure of ternary isothermal copolymer - oil - water systems have been addressed in this thesis.
