  1. 1. Cross-regulation between TGFβ/BMP Signalling and the metabolic LKB1 pathway

    Författare :Erna Raja; Aristidis Moustakas; Tomi Mäkelä; Uppsala University Faculty of Medicine Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cell signalling; TGFbeta; BMP; LKB1; AMPK; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Cell signalling determines physiological responses to many cellular stimuli and environmental changes. The transforming growth factor-beta (TGFβ)/bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signalling pathways begin by binding of ligand to the heterodimeric receptor complex, followed by activation of Smads that translocate to the nucleus to regulate transcription of genes that further mediate cellular physiology. 2. 2. LKB1 signaling pathways in adipocytes - Focus on the AMPK-related kinase SIK2

    Författare :Emma Henriksson; Proteinfosforylering; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipocytes; signal transduction; protein phosphorylation; LKB1; SIK2; SIK3; cAMP;

    Sammanfattning : Adipose tissue does not only store and release energy in response to hormones, it is also known as an endocrine organ, secreting important factors and hormones that influence for example appetite and insulin sensitivity. The association of type 2 diabetes with obesity has been known for quite some time. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Regulation of cell differentiation and invasion by members of the TGFß family

    Författare :Kalliopi Tzavlaki; Aristidis Moustakas; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Laia Caja; Staffan Johansson; Gareth Inman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGFβ; BMP; LKB1; signal transduction; cancer; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) and bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling pathways are important in embryonic development and tissue homeostasis, but also have complex roles in the context of cancer. TGFβ promotes epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) a physiological developmental process, often hijacked in different types of cancer, eventually leading to cancer cell invasion and metastasis. 4. 4. Molecular studies in breast cancer susceptibility genes

    Författare :Jindong Chen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :familial breast cancer; breast cancer susceptibility gene; BRCA1; BRCA2; ATM; TP53; PTEN MMAC1; STK11 LKB1; gene mutation; mutation screening; LOH;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women, with a cumulative risk of approximately 12% by the age of 85. Of the breast cancer cases, 5-10% are hereditary. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Regulation of cell polarity and invasion by TGF-β and BMP signaling

    Författare :Mahsa Shahidi Dadras; Aristidis Moustakas; Petra Knaus; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cancer; cancer stem cells; invasion; metastasis; polarity; TGF-β signaling.;

    Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) and bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling pathways are involved in many physiological processes during embryonic and adult life. TGF-β promotes epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT). We identified a gene target of TGF-β signaling, encoding the salt-inducible kinase 1 (SIK1). LÄS MER
