    Sammanfattning : Adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) are given nutritional education, but the knowledge about their adherence to the food recommendations and associations between dietary intake and metabolic control is poor. Gastrointestinal symptoms are more prevalent in adults with T1DM than in healthy controls, which may be due to disturbed gastrointestinal motility. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This thesis has studied the regulation of IGFBP-1 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein 1), which is one factor regulating the bioavailability of IGF-I with special interest how IGFBP-1 is regulated in vitro and in humans, especially in diabetes and catabolic conditions. The IGFBP-1 cDNA was cloned and used for studies in human hepatoma cells, HepG2, which showed that both insulin and IGF-I could decrease IGFBP-1 in the cell conditioned medium. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Abnormalities in amino acids (AA) metabolism in uraemia have mainly been reported to occur in plasma and muscle. No investigation has been undertaken to evaluate the AA levels in plasma, muscle and red blood cells (RBC) simultaneously, although the RBC pool of free AA constitutes a large proportion of the free AA in blood, and RBC are involved in the interorgan transport of AA.     Sammanfattning : The term "the metabolic syndrome" has been given to the constellation of insulin resistance, high blood pressure and hyperlipidemia. In western countries it is strongly associated with obesity and atherosclerosis. The cause of the metabolic syndrome is, however, incompletely understood. LÄS MER
