  1. 1. The oxidative and osmotic stress responses of S. cerevisiae

    Författare :Claes Molin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The yeast Hog1 is a stress responsive mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) similar to mammalian p38 and JNK. Rck2 is a protein kinase downstream of Hog1. The Hog1 pathway was previously implicated exclusively in the response to osmotic stress. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Role of Rck2 in metal and oxidative stress responses

    Författare :Swarna Swaminathan; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Yeast cells respond to rapid and drastic changes in their environment by activating signal transduction cascades that perform specific functions depending on the type of stress caused. MAP kinase pathways are one such network of protein kinases that result in the induction of transcription factors and a plethora of transcriptional and translational events leading to stress response. 3. 3. The Saccharomyces cerevisiae MAPKAP kinases Rck1 and Rck2 in stress responses

    Författare :Elizabeth Bilsland; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The Saccharomyces cerevisiae protein kinases Rck1 and Rck2 (Radiation sensitivity Complementing Kinases) were originally cloned as suppressors of Schizosaccharomyces pombe checkpoint mutants. In Saccharomyces cerevisiae we found that overexpression of either kinase has the ability to depress sporulation in mec1 and rad24 mutant backgrounds. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Osmoregulation at different stages of the yeast life cycle

    Författare :Cecilia Geijer; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stress signalling; osmoregulation; aquaporins; cerevisiae; germination; germination;

    Sammanfattning : The ability to adapt to changing and potentially harmful conditions in the surrounding environment is crucial for fitness and survival of all living cells; in particular unicellular organisms, since they are frequently exposed to stress factors such as heat, drought, nutritional starvation and toxic substances. The aim of this thesis is to determine how cells respond to osmotic and nutritional changes in the environment and how downstream targets of signalling cascades are regulated. LÄS MER

  5. 5. From cell populations to single cells - quantitative analysis of osmotic regulation in yeast

    Författare :Elzbieta Petelenz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mikrobiologi; systembiologi;

    Sammanfattning : To date, interdisciplinary research is becoming increasingly popular because it combines the achievements of diverse disciplines, having the potential of providing a completely new angle to pertinent research problems. Using increasingly sophisticated tools allowed obtaining large sets of high resolution data but also created the challenge of using this information effectively and interpreting it in a reliable way.
