  1. 1. Diatoms in Lake Duluti : Tracking Environmental Variability in Northern Tanzania during the Past 1000 Years

    Författare :Helena Öberg; Lars-Ove Westerberg; Karin Holmgren; Jan Risberg; Robert Marchant; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Paleolimnology; Tanzania; Diatoms; Climate change; Crater lake; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The tropics are the regions which are least understood climatically and new data on past climate variability is necessary for reliable future modeling of climate change. This thesis contributes with new paleoenvironmental information from a small crater lake in northern Tanzania and provides an additional link between the integrated history of climate, environment and socioeconomic variability in tropical Africa. 2. 2. Den svenska förvaltningsmodellen : Parlamentarisk debatt om förvaltningens roll i styrelseskicket

    Författare :Helena Wockelberg; Jörgen Hermansson; Shirin Ahlbäck-Öberg; Torbjörn Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Political science; public administration; constitutional debate; The Swedish Model of Administration; discretion; delegation; corporativism; Statsvetenskap; Political science; Statsvetenskap; Statskunskap; Political Science;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis is to describe and critically examine the parliamentary debate on the role of administrative agencies in Sweden during the period 1975–2000. What views on delegation, administrative discretion and steering tools are advocated by the Swedish political parties? Which is the proper role of administrative agencies in a democracy? The author suggests that agencies might be perceived as obedient tools or as counter powers. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Targeted Inhibition of Polycomb Repressive Complexes in Multiple Myeloma : Implications for Biology and Therapy

    Författare :Mohammad Alzrigat; Helena Jernberg-Wiklund; Fredrik Öberg; Kristina Drott; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Multiple Myeloma; Epigenetics; Polycomb; PRC2; PRC1; EZH2; BMI-1; UNC1999; PTC-209; Epigenetic Therapy; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple myeloma (MM) is a hematological malignancy of antibody producing plasmablasts/plasma cells. MM is characterized by extensive genetic and clonal heterogeneity, which have hampered the attempts to identify a common underlying mechanism for disease establishment and development of appropriate treatment regimes. 4. 4. Epigenetic gene regulation in multiple myeloma and mood disorders

    Författare :Antonia Kalushkova; Fredrik Öberg; Helena Jernberg-Wiklund; Lucia Cavelier; Anthony Wright; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IKKα; retinoic acid receptor; multiple myeloma; Polycomb; Ouabain; mood disorders;

    Sammanfattning : Epigenetics continues to be redefined and new discoveries are likely to revolutionise the field still further. This thesis explores different aspects of how epigenetic regulation of gene expression contributes to human disease. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Targeting molecular mechanisms for epigenetic silencing in multiple myeloma : Implications for biology and precision medicine

    Författare :Patrick Nylund; Helena Jernberg Wiklund; Antonia Kalushkova Nair; Fredrik Öberg; Toril Holien; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Multiple myeloma; epigenetics; PRC2; lncRNA; metabolomics; miRNA.;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple myeloma (MM) is a heterogeneous haematological cancer where malignant plasma cells clonally expand within the bone marrow. The transcriptional repressor PRC2 and its catalytic subunit EZH2 play a major role in MM, as PRC2 re-targeting results in a MM-specific gene silencing profile. LÄS MER
