  1. 1. Proximity Ligation : Transforming protein analysis into nucleic acid detection through proximity-dependent ligation of DNA sequence tagged protein-binders

    Författare :Simon Fredriksson; Larry Gold; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Molecular medicine; Proximity ligation; proteomics; SELEX; antibody; DNA microarray; Molekylärmedicin; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; Molecular Medicine; molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ;

    Sammanfattning : A novel technology for protein detection, proximity ligation, has been developed along with improved methods for in situ synthesis of DNA microarrays. Proximity ligation enables a specific and quantitative transformation of proteins present in a sample into nucleic acid sequences. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Essays on Market Design and Market Quality

    Författare :Dong Zhang; Lars Nordén; Björn Hagströmer; Dagfinn Rime; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; index futures market; underlying stock market; liquidity; volatility; gold futures market; price discovery; high frequency traders; aggressiveness; order submission; liquidity provider; adverse selection cost; företagsekonomi; Business Administration;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation contains four studies on different market structures and their impact on market quality.Article I studies the effect of introducing stock index futures contracts on the underlying stocks. The results indicate a lower liquidity level in the underlying stocks. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Identification of single motor units in ultrafast ultrasound image sequences of voluntary skeletal muscle contractions

    Författare :Robin Rohlén; Christer Grönlund; Jun Yu; Dario Farina; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ultrafast ultrasound; motor units; decomposition; skeletal muscle; voluntary contractions; electromyography; twitch; imaging;

    Sammanfattning : The central nervous system controls human force production by successive recruitment of motor units in the skeletal muscles and changing their neural firing rate. The motor unit comprises a motoneuron, its innervated muscle fibers, and its axons. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Rickettsia helvetica; Detection in arthropods and human tissues and its relation to clinical disease

    Författare :Kenneth Nilsson; Björn Olsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Communicable diseases; rickettsia; spotted fever; tick; PCR; myocarditis; sarcoidois; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases;

    Sammanfattning : A relation between R. helvetica and perimyocarditis was, in two young men who died of sudden cardiac death during exercise in 1997, suggested by a seminested PCR, for three different genes, sequencing of the amplified products, documentation of a seroresponse and histopathologic changes in accordance with rickettsioses. 5. 5. Protein-protein interactions in model systems : design, control of catalytic activity and biosensor applications

    Författare :Johan Rydberg; Lars Baltzer; Joel Schneider; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Protein interactions; design; catalysis; biosensors; hybride materials; nanoparticles; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the design of polypeptides, unordered in the monomeric state but capable of folding into helix-loop-helix motifs and dimerise to form four-helix bundles. The goal of the design was to encode them with the capacity to form dimers highly selectively and the ability to carry out molecular functions in the folded state but not in the unordered state, and thus to establish a molecular link between recognition and function.
