  1. 21. LXR regulation of hepatic gene expression and pituitary dependent hormones

    Författare :Pia Kotokorpi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Liver X receptor; growth hormone; gene regulation; metabolism; hepatocyte; hepatic steatosis; species differences;

    Sammanfattning : The liver X receptors (LXRs) are ligand activated transcription factors involved in the regulation of metabolic genes. LXRs are considered potential drug targets to treat metabolic disorders, however, unwanted side effects, as revealed from rodent studies, include increased lipogenesis in the liver and increased plasma triglyceride levels. 2. 22. Hormonal regulation of hepatic cholesterol and lipoprotein metabolism : effects of estrogen and growth hormone

    Författare :Paolo Parini; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :aging; atherosclerosis; bile acids; estrogen; estrogen receptor; cholesterol; growth hormone; growth hormone receptor; cholesterol 7[alpha]-hydroxylase; high density lipoprotein; hydroxy-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase; hormones; hypercholesterolemia; hypophysectomy; insulin-like growth factor-I; low density lipoproteins;

    Sammanfattning : Coronary heart disease is the result of the progression of atherosclerotic lesions, and represents the major cause of death in western countries. Age, male sex, plasma cholesterol, hypertension and smoking are major risk factors for atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Familial hypercholesterolemia in Sweden : genetic and metabolic studies

    Författare :Suzanne Lind; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Familial hypercholesterolemia; LDL receptor gene mutations; LDL cholesterol; bile acids; autosomal recessive hypercholesterolemia; growth hormone; LDL clearance.;

    Sammanfattning : Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is inherited as an autosomal codominant disease, usually caused by mutations in the LDL receptor (LDLR) gene. Heterozygous FH is a common disease with a prevalence of about 1/500 in most populations. Clinically, FH is characterized by elevated LDL cholesterol, tendon xanthomas and premature atherosclerosis. 4. 24. Growth Hormone and Anabolic Androgenic Steroids : Effects on Neurochemistry and Cognition

    Författare :Alfhild Grönbladh; Mathias Hallberg; Jörgen Isgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone; anabolic androgenic steroids; nandrolone decanoate; insulin-like growth factor; GABAB; opioids; memory; water maze; autoradiography; central nervous system; rats; Biological Research on Drug Dependence; Biologisk beroendeforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Growth hormone (GH) stimulates growth and metabolism but also displays profound effects on the central nervous system (CNS). GH affects neurogenesis and neuroprotection, and has been shown to counteract drug-induced apoptosis in the brain. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Identification and evaluation of growth hormone antagonists

    Författare :Linda Rosengren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : States in which Growth hormone (GH) levels are elevated have been implicated in several physiological disorders such as acromegaly, diabetic complications and progression of malignancies. Classical treatments for acromegaly are surgery and radiotherapy but also pharmacological therapies exist. LÄS MER
