  1. 1. High Blood Cholesterol. Physician and Patient Perspectives

    Författare :Margareta Troein; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; qualitative method; practice guideline; pharmacist; life-style; information; hypercholesterolemia; health education; health belief; framework; family physician; family medicine; Cholesterol; counseling; screening; Social medicine; Socialmedicin; samhällsmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Scientific evidence of the causal relationship between high blood cholesterol and risk for coronary heart disease prompted extensive professional and public interest in practical application in the 1980's. Among other things, national guidelines for lipid lowering were published in Sweden in 1988. Mass media covered the topic extensively. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Ethnic heterogeneity of the North-Swedish population : its origin and medical consequences

    Författare :Per-Olof Nylander; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ethnic heterogeneity; Northern Sweden; Population genetics; Finns; Saamis; Genetic markers; Hypercholesterolemia;

    Sammanfattning : Northern Sweden shows a unique population structure with remarkable geographical variations in the distribution of genetic disorders as well as genetic markers like blood groups, serum groups and red cell enzyme types. The present-day population of northern Sweden is a mixture of people of Finnish, Saamish (Lappish) and Central-Swedish origin. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cardiovascular risk factors in aortic stenosis

    Författare :Johan Ljungberg; Stefan Söderberg; Bengt Johansson; Peter Nilsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Valvular heart disease; aortic stenosis; bicuspid aortic valve; cardiovascular risk factors; hypertension; diabetes mellitus; smoking; hypercholesterolemia; obesity; shrunken pore; renal failure; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common hemodynamic significant valvular heart disease and affects about 2% of the population. The incidence increases with age. When symptoms of the stenotic aortic valve disease eventually occur the 2-year mortality exceeds 50%. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Familial hypercholesterolemia in Sweden : genetic and metabolic studies

    Författare :Suzanne Lind; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Familial hypercholesterolemia; LDL receptor gene mutations; LDL cholesterol; bile acids; autosomal recessive hypercholesterolemia; growth hormone; LDL clearance.;

    Sammanfattning : Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is inherited as an autosomal codominant disease, usually caused by mutations in the LDL receptor (LDLR) gene. Heterozygous FH is a common disease with a prevalence of about 1/500 in most populations. Clinically, FH is characterized by elevated LDL cholesterol, tendon xanthomas and premature atherosclerosis. 5. 5. Mutation Analysis and Hypercholesterolemia: Studies in FH patients and in healthy middle-aged men with high, low, or increasing cholesterol levels during a six-year follow-up (the CRISS study)

    Författare :Ulf Ekström; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; LDL receptor; Mutation; risk factor; FH; familial hypercholesterolemia;

    Sammanfattning : Our aims were to characterize familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) in a Swedish FH population and to further elucidate the clinical expression and treatment response in relation to genotype. Secondly, we wanted to identify gene variants, which may have impact on cholesterol levels in apparently healthy subjects. LÄS MER
