6. Geospatial Open-Source Modelling for Integrated Energy Access Planning : New Tools and Methods to Bridge the Energy Access Gap
Sammanfattning : In 2015 the United Nations (UN) General Assembly agreed on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a set of 17 goals defined by 169 targets to be reached by 2030. Amongst them is SDG 7. SDG 7 states “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”. LÄS MER
7. Leveraging HVPE for III-V/Si Integration and Mid-Infrared Photonic Device Fabrication
Sammanfattning : This work covers the implementation of highly specialized epitaxial techniques enabled by the near-equilibrium hydride vapor-phase epitaxy growth process in III-V/Si integration for Si-based tandem solar cells and photoelectrochemical reactions, quasi phase matching GaP structures on GaAs substrates, and regrowth of InP:Fe on quantum cascade lasing structures.III-V/Si integration is an important topic in several fields of research with a significant one being solar energy harvesting. 8. Predicting the Energy Performance of Buildings : A Method using Probabilistic Risk Analysis for Data-driven Decision-support
Sammanfattning : As most countries worldwide continue to mitigate climate change, one area of focus is a building's energy efficiency. Buildings currently account for approximately 40 per cent of the total energy use in the European Union. One solution for reducing the energy demand from buildings is by continually implementing more stringent building regulations. LÄS MER
9. Robust Formulations for Beam-to-Beam Contact
Sammanfattning : Contact between beam elements is a specific category of contact problems which was introduced by Wriggers and Zavarise in 1997 for normal contact and later extended by Zavarise and Wriggers to include tangential and frictional contact. In these works, beam elements are assumed to have rigid circular cross-sections and each pair of elements cannot have more than one contact point. LÄS MER
10. Riemann-Hilbert methods in general relativity and random matrix theory
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on problems in general relativity and random matrix theory that can be solved by means of Riemann-Hilbert techniques. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to solving boundary value problems related to colliding plane waves in vacuum in general relativity. LÄS MER
