  1. 1. Nutritional and physicochemical characterisation of dietary fibre in wheat fractions

    Författare :Lina Haskå; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dietary fibre; fructan; arabinoxylan; wheat; distillers grains; short-chain fatty acids; microbiota;

    Sammanfattning : Dietary fibre is fermented in the colon to short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), of which especially butyric and propionic acid may have health-promoting effects. One source of dietary fibre may be by-products from wheat, which are currently used as animal feed. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Flow Field and Fibre Fractionation Studies in Hydrocyclones

    Författare :Jonas Bergström; Bo Norman; Mark Martinex; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fibre suspension; fractionation; hydrocyclone; measurement technique; velocity measurement; shear forces; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Hydrocyclones can be used to fractionate fibres according to their papermaking potential. The obtained fractions typically differ in fibre wall thickness and/or degree of fibre treatment. Despite a multitude of potential application scenarios, the process has so far had little commercial success. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the Adhesion Between Substrates Covered with Polyelectrolyte Multilayers

    Författare :Rikard Lingström; Lars Wågberg; Lennart Piculell; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fibre; polyelectorlyte; multilayer; wettability; contact angle; paper strength; atomic force microscopy; surface force apparatus; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the formation of Polyelectrolyte Multilayers (PEM) on cellulose fibres as a new way of influencing the fibre surface and the adhesion between wood fibres. The aim of the study was to enhance the fundamental understanding of the adsorption mechanisms behind the formation of Polyelectrolyte Multilayers on cellulose fibres; to study how the properties of the layers can be influenced and to show how the properties of the layers influence the adhesion between the fibres and the strength of paper sheets made from the PEM treated fibres. 4. 4. Distributions Of Fiber Characteristics As A Tool To Evaluate Mechanical Pulps

    Författare :Sofia Reyier Österling; Per Engstrand; Hans Höglund; Olof Ferritsius; Rita Ferritsius; Hans Ersson; Per Gradin; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fiber; fibre; fiber characteristics; fiber dimension; fiber properties; mechanical pulp; FiberLab; raw data; distribution; fiber wall thickness; BIN; bonding ability influence; bonding indicator; bonding ability; fiber width; fibrillation; collapse resistance; laboratory sheet; fiber analyzer; optical analyzer; TMP; CTMP; SGW; sheet model; prediction; fiber characterization; hydrocyclone; fractionation; kernel density estimation; KDE; diffusion mixing; acoustic emission; F0.90; Norway spruce; Picea abies;

    Sammanfattning : Mechanical pulps are used in paper products such as magazine or news grade printing papers or paperboard. Mechanical pulping gives a high yield; nearly everything in the tree except the bark is used in the paper. This means that mechanical pulping consumes much less wood than chemical pulping, especially to produce a unit area of printing surface. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Kraft Pulp Fibre Surfaces. Chemical Composition and Effect on Pulp Bleachability

    Författare :Anette Heijnesson Hultén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ray cells; carbohydrates; Kraft pulps; enzymes; lignin; fibre surfaces; metal ions; bleachability;

    Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis concerns studies of kraft fibre surfaces in respect of chemical composition and effect on pulp bleachability. Kraft fibre surfaces were studied by mechanical peeling using a disintegrator operated at 20.000-200.000 revolutions and a pulp consistency of 3% or 4. LÄS MER
