11. Gene environment-interaction and cardiovascular phenotype in obesity and diabetes
Sammanfattning : Although a large body of evidence supports the notion that genes determine cardio-metabolic traits and outcomes, the non-genetic regulation of these events has recently gained increasing attention. Plastic chemical modifications of DNA-histone complexes defined epigenetic changes regulate gene expression by modifying chromatin accessibility to transcription factors. LÄS MER
12. Long Noncoding RNA Mediated Regulation of Imprinted Genes
Sammanfattning : Genomic imprinting is an epigenetic phenomenon that causes a subset of mammalian genes to be expressed from only one allele in a parent-of-origin manner. The defects in the imprinting regulation result in disorders that affect development, growth and metabolism. LÄS MER
13. Prognostic markers and DNA methylation profiling in lymphoid malignancies
Sammanfattning : In recent years, great progress has been achieved towards identifying novel biomarkers in lymphoid malignancies, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), at the genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic level for accurate risk-stratification and prediction of treatment response. In paper I, we validated the prognostic relevance of a recently proposed RNA-based marker in CLL, UGT2B17, and analyzed its expression levels in 253 early-stage patients. LÄS MER
14. New Insights in Genetic and Epigenetic Mechanisms Involved in Parathyroid Tumorigenesis
Sammanfattning : Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is a pathology associated with one or multiple hyperfunctioning parathyroid glands. The disease prevalence occurs in roughly 1-2% of the population primarily post-menopausal women. The molecular pathology of the disease is poorly understood. LÄS MER
15. Characterization of non-coding RNAs in cancer
Sammanfattning : While originally though to only code for proteins, it now stands clear that RNA is a multifunctional molecule involved in a great variety of molecular processes. Recent advances in genome-wide platforms have revealed underappreciated roles of non-protein coding RNAs (ncRNAs). LÄS MER
