21. Mechanisms of immune escape in EBV associated malignancies : Hodgkin's disease and Burkitt's lymphoma
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis is focused on the analysis of the mechanisms operating in the immune escape of two Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) associated tumors: Hodgkin's Disease (HD) and Burkitt's lymphoma (BL). EBV positive HD tumor cells express at least 3 viral proteins: the EBV nuclear antigen (EBNA)1, the latent membrane proteins (LMP)1 and LMP2A. LÄS MER
22. Strategies for management of EBV and adenovirus infections after allogeneic stem cell transplantation
Sammanfattning : Viral infections are one of the challenges that can threaten successful allogeneic HSCT especially during the period of immune reconstitution resulting in a high mortality risk. Adenoviruses and EBV are important viruses during this period. LÄS MER
23. Role of latent EBV genes in the induction of genomic instability in Burkitt’s lymphoma
Sammanfattning : Epidemiological and molecular evidence link Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection to a variety of lymphoid and epithelial malignancies but the contribution of the virus to tumorigenesis is unclear. Genomic instability, defined by the establishment of a mutator phenotype and characterized by the occurrence of non-clonal chromosomal aberrations, excessive DNA damage and defects in DNA repair, is the hallmark of malignant transformation. 24. Nuclear compartmentalization of viral and cellular proteins involved in gamma-herpes virus (EBV and HHV-8) mediated cellular transformation
Sammanfattning : The aim of the work described in this thesis has been to characterize the nuclear compartmentalization of cellular and viral proteins involved in EBV or HHV-8 mediated cellular transformation. We have studied the EBV encoded EBNA-5 and its association with the PML nuclear bodies (NBs) and nuclear inclusions. LÄS MER
25. Analysis of viral and cellular gene expression patterns in cells latently infected with EBV by suppression subtractive hybridization
Sammanfattning : Epstein-Barr virus is a ubiquitous γ-herpes virus and causes the self-limiting lymphoproliferative disease, called infectious mononucleosis. Its presence is associated with several malignancies, including Burkitt lymphoma, gastric cancer and other malignant diseases. LÄS MER
