  1. 1. Managing Distance : Small Firm Networks at the Geographic Margins

    Författare :Alexandre Dubois; Brita Hermelin; Andrew Copus; Dimitris Skuras; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; globalisation; periphery; small firms; embeddedness; extralocal networks; proximity; kulturgeografi; Human Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Small businesses located in the most sparsely populated and peripheral parts of Europe are frequently believed to be marginalised with respect to the processes of economic globalisation. This thesis proposes to explore an alternative perspective for understanding how small businesses that are located at the geographical margins engage with the globalised economy. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on learner support in Chinese distance education. It draws a picture of Chinese modern distance education, covering the major issues in the field of learner support, and small group work as peer support. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Methods for Reliable Image Registration : Algorithms, Distance Measures, and Representations

    Författare :Johan Öfverstedt; Natasa Sladoje; Mattias Heinrich; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Image registration; alignment; local optimization; global optimization; mutual information; normalized gradient fields; representation learning; Computerized Image Processing; Datoriserad bildbehandling;

    Sammanfattning : Much biomedical and medical research relies on the collection of ever-larger amounts of image data (both 2D images and 3D volumes, as well as time-series) and increasingly from multiple sources. Image registration, the process of finding correspondences between images based on the affinity of features of interest, is often required as a vital step towards the final analysis, which may consist of a comparison of images, measurement of movement, or fusion of complementary information. 4. 4. Numerical Methods for Turbomachinery Aeromechanical Predictions

    Författare :Maria Angelica Mayorca; Damian Vogt; Torsten Fransson; Robert Kielb; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aeromechanics; numerical tools; methods; turbomachinery; aeroelasticity; gas turbines; vibrations;

    Sammanfattning : In both aviation and power generation, gas turbines are used as key components. An important driver of technological advance in gas turbines is the race towards environmentally friendly machines, decreasing the fuel burn, community noise and NOx emissions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Proximity and distance : challenges in person-centred care for diabetes specialist nurses in primary health care

    Författare :Eva Boström; Åsa Hörnsten; Ulf Isaksson; Berit Lundman; Inger Ekman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes specialist nurse; professional role; self-management support; type 2 diabetes; caring relation; power relation; person-centred care; omvårdnadsforskning med medicinsk inriktning; Caring Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Background Type 2 diabetes demands self-management over time, to maintain health and reduce the risk for diabetes complications. However, despite efforts, many persons with type 2 diabetes are not reaching the treatment targets. In diabetes, person-centred care and group education are recommended. LÄS MER
