21. Benefits of Coordinating Plug-In Electric Vehicles in Electric Power Systems : Through Market Prices and Use-of-System Network Charges
Sammanfattning : Both electric power systems and the transportation sector are essential constituents to modern life, enhancing social welfare, enabling economic prosperity and ultimately providing well-being to the people. However, to mitigate adverse climatological effects of emitting greenhouse gases, a rigorous de-carbonization of both industries has been set on the political agenda in many parts of the world. 22. Robust inference of gene regulatory networks : System properties, variable selection, subnetworks, and design of experiments
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, inference of biological networks from in vivo data generated by perturbation experiments is considered, i.e. deduction of causal interactions that exist among the observed variables. Knowledge of such regulatory influences is essential in biology. LÄS MER
23. Mobility Management and Localizability for Cellular Connected UAVs
Sammanfattning : Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) connected to cellular networks present novel challenges and opportunities in mobility management and localization, distinct from those faced by terrestrial users. This thesis presents an integrated approach, combining two key aspects essential for the integration of UAVs with cellular networks. LÄS MER
24. Explanation and deduction : a defence of deductive chauvinism
Sammanfattning : In this essay I defend the notion of deductive explanation mainly against two types of putative counterexamples: those found in genuinely indeterministic systems and those found in complex dynamic systems. Using Railton's notions of explanatory information and ideal explanatory text, deductivism is defended in an indeterministic setting. LÄS MER
25. Metadata Management in Multi-Grids and Multi-Clouds
Sammanfattning : Grid computing and cloud computing are two related paradigms used to access and use vast amounts of computational resources. The resources are often owned and managed by a third party, relieving the users from the costs and burdens of acquiring and managing a considerably large infrastructure themselves. LÄS MER
