  1. 1. Endocannabinoid metabolism : the impact of inflammatory factors and pharmacological inhibitors

    Författare :Jessica Karlsson; Christopher Fowler; Stig Jacobsson; Jürg Gertsch; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; endocannabinoid; anandamide; 2-AG; fatty acid amide hydrolase; cyclooxygenase-2; prostate cancer; catabolism; inflammation; inflammatory factors;

    Sammanfattning : The endocannabinoid (eCB) system is an endogenous signaling system consisting of ligands (referred to as endocannabinoids, eCBs), receptors and metabolic enzymes. The eCB system is involved in homeostatic control of a variety of biological functions such as neuronal signaling, mood, appetite and pathological conditions such as pain, inflammation and tumour progression. 2. 2. Bioactive Lipids in Nociception

    Författare :Anna Ermund; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :Cannabinoids; Anandamide; AM404; 2-Arachidonoylglycerol; Acetaminophen; Cyclooxygenase; Nocicieption; TRPV1;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on bioactive lipids as (1) metabolites of the widely used antipyretic and analgesic drug acetaminophen and (2) activators of the ion channel TRPV1, an important downstream target for inflammatory mediators, in the phospholipase C (PLC)/TRPV1 signaling pathway. Evidence is presented for a fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH)-dependent fatty acid conjugation of p-aminophenol, a known acetaminophen metabolite, to form the potent TRPV1 activator AM404 in the central nervous system. 3. 3. The endocannabinoid system : a translational study from Achilles tendinosis to cyclooxygenase

    Författare :Emmelie Björklund; Christopher Fowler; Peter Zygmunt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The endogenous cannabinoids anandamide (arachidonoyl ethanolamide, AEA) and 2-arachidonoyl glycerol (2-AG) exert their effect by activating cannabinoid receptors (CB). These receptors mediate a broad range of physiological functions such as beneficial effects in pain and inflammation, although little is known about the expression of CB receptors in human pain conditions. 4. 4. Molecular determinants of endocannabinoid-mediated brain development

    Författare :Daniela Calvigioni; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The enchanting process of brain development entails a fragile and finite time window, throughout which biochemical imbalances and external insults can potentially affect developing neuronal circuits. Within the numerous exquisitely orchestrated events taking place in the foetal brain, axonal pathfinding is of paramount importance. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Endocannabinoids and Related Lipids in Chronic Pain : Analytical and Clinical Aspects

    Författare :Niclas Stensson; Bijar Ghafouri; Björn Gerdle; Nazdar Ghafouri; Christopher Fowler; Per-Johan Jakobsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In Europe, approximately one in five adults experience chronic pain, pain that lasts more than three months. Chronic pain is a significant problem not only for those people suffering from chronic pain but also for society. The prevalence of chronic pain is higher in women and lower socioeconomic groups.
