  1. 11. Groundwater characterisation and modelling

    Författare :Marcus Laaksoharju; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : For the last 10 years, the Äspö Hard RockLaboratory (HRL) in Sweden has been the main test site for thedevelopment of suitable methods for the final disposal of spentnuclear fuel. Major achievements have been made in thedevelopment of new groundwater sampling and modellingtechniques. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Microbial ecology in deep granitic groundwater - activity and impact of viruses

    Författare :Hallgerd Eydal; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ATP; Desulfovibrio; groundwater; bacteriophage; Podoviridae; sulphate-reducing bacteria; viral ecology;

    Sammanfattning : The deep subsurface environments in granitic rock can be studied and sampled at the Äspö hard rock laboratory (HRL) close to Oskarshamn in Sweden. Here, the groundwater is anaerobic and total counts give numbers of 104 to 106 cells mL-1. However, these measurements do not reveal if the cells are active and alive. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Deformation and failure of hard rock under laboratory and field conditions

    Författare :Kelvis Pérez; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och berganläggningsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The understanding of the fracture mechanisms and failure processes of the rock is an important requirement for the design of mining excavations and civil engineering constructions. The fracture process is necessary for the excavation and fragmentation of rock, but fracture of rock must be avoided and controlled to preserve the integrity of the construction. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Uncertainties in Actinide Solubility Calculations Illustrated using the Th-OH-PO4 System

    Författare :Christian Ekberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; potentiometric titrations; solvent extraction; uncertainty analysis; sensitivity analysis; MINVAR; thorium hydrolysis; SENVAR; thorium phosphate complexes; UNCCON;

    Sammanfattning : Computer simulations have become increasingly popular in many different areas over the years, owing mainly to more effective and cheaper machines. In many cases, the trend seems to be that computer simulations are replacing experiments, at least in areas in which experiments are very difficult (expensive) or impossible. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Value of Information Analysis in Rock Engineering Investigations

    Författare :Miriam Zetterlund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Observational Method; Rock mass characterisation; Value of Information;

    Sammanfattning : A challenge in rock engineering is to strike a balance between a reasonable level of investigation and uncertainty in the geological conditions. Value of Information Analysis (VOIA) provides support for decisions about investigation strategies. LÄS MER
