Rekordår och miljonprogram : flerfamiljshus i stor skala : en fallstudiebaserad undersökning av politik, planläggning och estetik

Sammanfattning: The objective of the thesis is to illuminate and further the understanding of a period of history known as the ”record years” (1960-1975), and ”the million homes program” (1965-1974). The questions discussed in the thesis include: what was the attitude of local authorities to the building of homes? How was the location of the buildings decided? Which factors influenced the character of the buildings and housing areas? This involves a study of the interplay among the various actors and a discussion of the role of the architects. The study shows that local authorities had a positive attitude to expansion. They wanted to build homes. The location of the housing areas was decided not by reference to general plans but by issues of land ownership, water and sewage-treatment facilities and, in one or two cases, by circumstances. The physical planning work was carried out in cooperation with outside parties not linked to the local authorities in a form which has subsequently been called negotiation planning. Based on the findings of the three cases that have been studied, the suggestion that the state’s instruments of control should have been decisive for the results is doubtful. The architects in the three cases had a strong position; the town-planning ideals which they represented were largely realised. They were not steamrollered by the building industry. The plans and architecture of the ”record years” can and should be put in relation to the reigning architectural theories and town-planning ideals of the 1960s and 1970s. The relations between the parties involved - architects, buildingcontractors, building companies and municipal politicians — were largely marked by unanimity, not conflict, as has previously been suggested.Sökord: Fysisk planering, förhandlingsplanering, bostadsstyrelsen, byggnadsstyrelsen, statens planverk, länsarkitekt, industrialiserat byggande, förhandsbesked, Stockholms län, Storstockholm, Täby, Boo, Nacka, Huddinge, HSB, Ohlsson & Skarne, John Mattsson, Siab, Skånska Cementgjuteriet, Prosako, Familjebostäder, VBB, Jöran Curman, Ulf Gillberg, Hans Matell, Sune Lindström, Alf Bydén, Åke Arell, townscape, brutalism, strukturalism, 1960-tal, 1970-tal.
