1. Vacuum Dewatering of Cellulosic Materials : New insights into transport phenomena in the papermaking process
Sammanfattning : Working towards sustainable development within the forest industry, the dewatering of pulp and paper must be fully understood along with the dewatering of other cellulose-based materials. Huge amounts of energy are used during paper manufacturing so there is a potential for making the processes more energy-efficient. LÄS MER
2. Adsorption and reclamation of wastewater nitrogen and the value of human urine as a nitrogen fertiliser
Sammanfattning : Ammonium adsorption and ammonium ion exchange technique are possible alternatives for ammonium reclamation at conventional wastewater treatment plants. There are a few ion exchange applications that have been suggested for nitrogen reclamation, which can be further developed. LÄS MER
3. Hydrological modelling of green urban drainage systems : Advancing the understanding and management of uncertainties in data, model structure and objective functions
Sammanfattning : The use of green urban drainage systems such as green roofs, swales and pervious areas has in recent years become a popular option to reduce flood risk and water quality problems in a more sustainable way than with traditional pipe-based drainage systems. Computer models are valuable tools for the management of such systems. LÄS MER
4. Methodological aspects of quantitative cardiac molecular imaging
Sammanfattning : The objective of this research was to facilitate the use of quantitative cardiac molecular imaging by developing and validating methods and applications. More specifically:we determined the optimal tracer kinetic model for analysis of 11C-PIB and evaluated the performance of two simpler measures, retention index (RI) and standardized uptake value (SUV), in the quantification of cardiac 11C-PIB uptake in amyloidosis. 5. Nutritional Value and Quality of Processed Mango Fruits
Sammanfattning : Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is one of the most important tropical fruits commercialized and consumed worldwide, and an excellent source of fibre, bioactive compounds such as pro-vitamin A carotenoids, vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and phenolics. Mango was used in this thesis as a model fruit of fruits and vegetables that are rich sources of nutrients. LÄS MER
