  1. 16. Assessing the health consequences of deficiencies in water distribution networks: a basis for future network management

    Författare :Victor Vinas; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; QMRA; risk management; distribution network; microbial risk; epidemiological studies;

    Sammanfattning : Drinking water distribution networks are susceptible to incidents that may contaminate the drinking water being served to the population. Five major risks that can impact negatively the health of consumers have been identified by a literature study: intrusion, cross-connections and backflows, unhygienic repairs or maintenance works, inadequate management of storage reservoirs and biofilms. 2. 17. Sustainable Arsenic Mitigation A Strategy for Scaling-up Safe Water Access : A Strategy for Scaling-up Safe Water Access

    Författare :Mohammed Hossain; Prosun Bhattacharya; Marinus Eric Donselaar; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bangladesh; drinking water; arsenic mitigation; local tubewell driller; sediment color tool; low-manganese; Intermediate Deep aquifer; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In rural Bangladesh, the drinking water supply is mostly dependent upon manually operated hand pumped tubewells, installed by the local community. The presence of natural arsenic (As) in groundwater and its wide scale occurrence has drastically reduced the safe water access across the country and put tens of millions of people under health risk. 3. 18. In the Pipe or End of Pipe? : Transport and Dispersion of Water-borne Pollutants and Feasibility of Abatement Measures

    Författare :Christoffer Carstens; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Auli Niemi; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Contaminant transport modelling; Groundwater; Dispersion; Wave power; Eutrophication;

    Sammanfattning : Eutrophication is one of the key environmental problems of today, both in terms of complexity and magnitude. For the Baltic Sea (BS), eutrophication is an acute problem, leading to hypoxic conditions at the bottom; a situation that is sustained and amplified, when phosphorus is released from hypoxic sediments. 4. 19. Microbial risk assessment and its implications for risk management in urban water systems

    Författare :Therese Westrell; Thor-Axel Stenström; Nick Ashbolt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantitative microbial risk assessment; pathogens; urban; decentralised; failures; noroviruses; water consumption; HACCP; drinking water; wastewater; sludge; faeces; risk management; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Sammanfattning : Infectious disease can be transmitted via various environmental pathways, many of which are incorporated into our water and wastewater systems. Quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA) can be a valuable tool in identifying hazard exposure pathways and estimating their associated health impacts. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Spatial variability of geogenic contaminants in drinking water sources : Insights into hydrogeological controls, geospatial data for safe water supply and groundwater resource management

    Författare :J. Ijumulana; Prosun Bhattacharya; Felix Mtalo; Steve W. Lyon; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drinking water; geogenic contaminants; potentially toxic elements; fluoride; spatial analysis; spatial variability; Tanzania; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of geogenic contaminants in drinking water is a major health concern in many parts of the world. The interaction of groundwater with different rock types and sediments in the natural geochemical environment play an important role in controlling their mobility. LÄS MER
