Beside all the positive effects on the emissions and fuel consumption, they all affect the air-charge system, which increases the cross-couplings within the air-path control, making it an even more complex system to control. In the design compromises are made, for example the maximum power of the engine determines the size of the compressor, but since the compressor mass flow range is limited, this affects the torque for low engine speeds.
