1. Waste-heat Recovery Using Thermoelectricity and Silicon Carbide Power Electronics
Sammanfattning : Energy consumption in the world has increased continuously due to a growing population and increased energy consumption per capita. Moreover, the largest part of consumed energy still comes from fossil sources which in 2016 was more than 130 PWh. LÄS MER
2. Electro-thermal simulations and measurements of silicon carbide power transistors
Sammanfattning : The temperature dependent electrical characteristics of silicon carbide power transistors – 4H-SiC metal semiconductor field-effect transistors (MESFETs) and 4H-SiC bipolar junction transistors (BJTs) have been investigated through simulation and experimental approaches. Junction temperatures and temperature distributions in devices under large power densities have been estimated. LÄS MER
3. On Distributed Balancing of Wind Power Forecast Deviations in Competitive Power Systems
Sammanfattning : Wind power generation does, on the one hand, contribute to a less polluting and more sustainable electric power generation mix. On the other hand, the uncertainty and the variability of the power output do challenge the operation of the power system: hourly variations in wind power generation are hardly predictable in a precise way. 4. Towards Technology Assessment of Ocean Energy in a Developing Country Context
Sammanfattning : New technologies for the extraction of valuable ocean resources are emerging: renewable ocean energy. Ocean energy technologies have so far primarily been developed in industrialized countries but will be deployed in both industrialized and developing countries. LÄS MER
5. The impact of wind power variability on the least-cost dispatch of units in the electricity generation system
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the dynamics of electricity generation systems that involve high levels of wind power. Methods to account for wind power variability in electricity-dispatch models are explored, and the impact of wind power variability on the optimal output of the generation units, so as to meet the system load with the lowest possible cost (economic dispatch), is analyzed for several systems, for both regional and European cases.
