21. Integrated Optical Slot-Waveguide Ring Resonator Sensor Arrays for Lab-on-Chip Applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats the development of an integrated optical sensor array. The sensors are slot-waveguide ring resonators, integrated with on-chip surface grating couplers and light splitters, for alignment tolerant, real-time, refractive index sensing, and label-free biosensing. 22. Dimension Reduction and Signal Decomposition for Genotype–Phenotype Relations
Sammanfattning : Over the last few decades, DNA sequencing has developed from costing billions of dollars to get the complete sequence of the human genome, to being a routine procedure performed in labs all around the world. This has transformed the field of experimental biology since measurements can be done at a level of detail that was not possible before. LÄS MER
23. Structural Insights into the Acquisition and Storage of Iron
Sammanfattning : It is of vital importance to understand the systems for iron metabolism and this thesis contributes to this by providing insights into the structure and function of the acquisition and homeostasis of iron. The two proteins that have been primarily investigated are a ferric reductase from Arabidopsis thaliana called FRO2 and a mitochondrial iron chaperone from Saccharomyces cerevisiae called frataxin. 24. Structure-function studies of epoxide hydrolases
Sammanfattning : Epoxides are three-membered cyclic ethers formed in cells via several metabolic pathways. Epoxide hydrolases (EHs) are enzymes that hydrolyse epoxides to the corresponding diols. The main goal of this thesis was to investigate the structures of EHs from the alpha/beta-hydrolase family. LÄS MER
25. The immunoglobulin heavy chain 3ʼ enhancer : coupling of basic-Helix-Loop-Helix proteins to the regulation of enhancer function
Sammanfattning : During B lymphocyte development, the transcriptional activity of the IgH locus is subject to spatial and temporal changes. One cis-control element, the IgH 3' enhancer, has been implicated in regulating functional events in late B cell development. LÄS MER
