1. Long-term outcome of children with cerebral palsy undergoing selective dorsal rhizotomy
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the thesis was to describe long-term development of functional outcomes in children with cerebral palsy undergoing selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) combined with physiotherapy and to evaluate measures used in follow-up. Five years after SDR muscle tone was reduced, passive range of motion (PROM) increased in hip, knee and foot, gross motor function measured by the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM) improved as well as functional performance and independence by the Pediatric Evaluation Disability Inventory. 2. Postoperative Intrathecal Pain Treatment in Children
Sammanfattning : Selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) is an effective operations method that successfully decreased the degree of spasticity with long lasting beneficial effects for children with spastic diplegia. Children undergoing SDR are postoperatively in severe pain, a pain related to both the extensive surgical exposure with multilevel laminotomy and the nerve root manipulation. LÄS MER
3. Prolonged Modulation of the Micturition Reflex by Electrical Stimulation
Sammanfattning : Intravesical electrical stimulation (IVES) has been used in treatment of patients with urinary bladder dysfunctions for more than four decades. While some investigators have reported excellent results others have observed less convincing effects or outright failures. LÄS MER
4. Measurements of Function in Children with Cerebral Palsy
Sammanfattning : Cerebral palsy (CP) is a term for a group of conditions associated with motor disabilities, that are very heterogeneous, i.e. symptoms, severity, associated impairments, functional outcome and needs. The overall purpose of this thesis was to study the prevalence and gross motor function and to evaluate and adapt measurements in children with CP. LÄS MER
5. Cerebral palsy : studies on health and social outcomes in young adulthood, and on treatments for spasticity and pain
Sammanfattning : Cerebral palsy (CP) is a permanent disorder caused by a non-progressive brain injury or malformation that has occurred early in the development of the child’s brain. The disorder is characterized by dysfunction of movement and posture, with frequent but variable occurrences of other dysfunctions in cognition, perception, sensation, communication, as well as of epilepsy, and pain.
