  1. 1. Assessment of increased upper airway resistance in snorers. Methodological and diagnostic considerations

    Författare :Sören Berg; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; arousals.; pharyngeal pressure; intrathoracic pressure; hypopnea; respiratory ventilation; oxygenation; Non apneic snorers; upper airway obstruction; Otorhinolaryngology; audiology; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Sammanfattning : Sleep-related partial upper airway obstruction may cause increased morbidity and mortality, but diagnosis and treatment of patients is varying and inconsistent. The present studies were aimed to evaluate presently applied indirect methods for assessing respiratory ventilation and to investigate the value and accuracy in estimating upper airway resistance during sleep by measuring intrathoracic pressure variation with a microchip catheter in the esophagus. 2. 2. Work and sleep - what's stress got to do with it?

    Författare :Johanna Garefelt; Loretta G. Platts; Hugo Westerlund; Göran Kecklund; Christian Benedict; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; insomnia; job stress; retirement; social jetlag; accelerometery; Public Health Sciences; folkhälsovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Work may affect sleep by reducing the time available for recovery and, via work stress, by reducing sleep quality. Further, people experiencing sleep disturbance may be less resistant to work stress. These processes may lead to the development of a vicious cycle between work and sleep, in which stress has a central role. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Focus on Chronic Disease through Different Lenses of Expertise : Towards Implementation of Patient-Focused Decision Support Preventing Disability: The Example of Early Rheumatoid Arthritis

    Författare :Örjan Dahlström; Toomas Timpka; Ingrid Thyberg; Ursula Hass; Ingemar Petersson; Linköpings universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease. Treatment strategies emphasize early multi-professional interventions to reduce disease activity and to prevent disability, but there is a lack of knowledge on how optimal treatment can be provided to each individual patient. Sammanfattning : Abstract One important task for the mental health services is to prevent suicidal behaviour, especially among persons at high risk, e.g. those who have attempted suicide. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Monoamine transporters in female human reproduction

    Författare :Barbara Bottalico; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PMAT; VMAT2; OCT; NET; in-situ hybridization histochemistry; decidualization; human endometrium; placenta; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Monoamine transporters; preeclampsia; histamine; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Sammanfattning : The present study explored the gene and protein expression of the monoamine transporters in human endometrium throughout the menstrual cycle, in early decidua and in placentas from normal as well as preeclamptic pregnancies using in-situ hybridization, real time-PCR, immunohistochemistry and primary tissue cultures. Four distinguishable patterns were observed in the endometrium over the menstrual cycle: (1) epithelial expression of norepinephrine transporter (NET) mRNA, (2) Stromal co- expression of vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) and plasma membrane monoamine transporter (PMAT) mRNAs with maximal intensity in the proliferative phase; (3) increasing epithelial expression of VMAT2 mRNA with a maximum in the late secretory phase; (4) stromal expression of extra-neuronal monoamine transporter (EMT) mRNA with a peak in the early secretory phase.
