   Sammanfattning : Preconception expanded carrier screening is a novel technology that involves the offer of a screening test for many recessive diseases (via an expanded screening panel) to prospective parents, with no priori risk. Test positive couples have a number of reproductive choices; prenatal diagnosis and aborting affected fetus, IVF and preimplantation genetic diagnosis, sperm or ovum donation or simply accept the risk.    Sammanfattning : Adolescent pregnancy has been associated with adverse health and social outcomes, but it has also been favorably viewed as a pathway to adulthood. In Ecuador, where 20% of girls aged between 15-19 years get pregnant, the adolescent fertility rate has increased and inequalities between adolescent girls from different educational, socio-economic levels and geographical regions are prominent: 43% of illiterate adolescents become pregnant compared to 11% with secondary education.    Sammanfattning : Background: In high-income countries, hospital length of stay after a normal birth has gradually decreased correspondingly to length of stay in care of other patients. A short stay provides a greater opportunity for autonomy and an increased sense of participation, but it may involve great challenges satisfying parental guidance as well as on the possibility of preventing, discovering, and treating neonatal medical conditions.    Sammanfattning : The studies described in this thesis were carried out in Sudan and Sweden. Pregnant Sudanese women, who had a significantly lower urinary iodine concentration than their Swedish counterparts, showed significantly lower thyrotrophin (TSH) levels in weeks 36-39 of pregnancy and higher free thyroxine (FT4) levels both in weeks 20-24 and 36-39 of pregnancy than Swedish pregnant women.
