1. (Photo)electrochemical Water Oxidation: From Catalysis to Functional Device
Sammanfattning : The key challenge within artificial photosynthesis is achieving efficient electro- or photo-driven water oxidation catalysis, a necessary process to supply the protons for the reduction reactions, thereby enabling solar fuel production. To facilitate efficient water (photo)electrolysis for solar fuel production, this thesis focuses on two aspects: 1) elucidating the O-O bond formation mechanism and developing efficient, stable, and economical water oxidation catalysts (WOCs); 2) exploring stable, low-cost, light-absorbing photoanode materials that have suitable band structures and excellent charge diffusion properties. 2. Surface Engineering of BiVO4-based Photoelectrochemical Cells for Water Splitting
Sammanfattning : Photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting is a promising technology for converting solar energy into green hydrogen. The development of highly efficient, robust and cost-effective photoanodes has been established to be of essential importance for PEC water oxidation. LÄS MER
3. Overcoming the Mass Transport Limitations of Dye-Sensitised Solar Cells : Towards highly efficient and robust alternative redox mediator electrolyte DSSCs
Sammanfattning : Dye-sensitised solar cells (DSSCs) have been subject to decadelong research interest, and may have some potential niche market applications. Recently, major advances in power conversion efficiencies have been achieved following the transition to cobalt polypyridine based redox mediators. LÄS MER
4. Advanced silicon photoelectrodes for water splitting devices : design, preparation and functional characterization by photo-electrochemistry and high-energy X-ray spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : For the last century, mankind has been hugely dependent on fossil fuels to meet its energy needs. Harnessing energy from fossil fuels led to the emission of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases such as CO2 are a major contributor to global warming. LÄS MER
5. High Bandgap FAPbBr3 Perovskite Solar Cells : Preparation, Characterization, and Application
Sammanfattning : High bandgap lead-halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have gained interest as top cells for tandem solar cells and photoelectrochemical applications due to their suitable energy bands. However, the PSCs have limited stability and performance, and their fabrication in a glovebox and utilization of expensive metal contacts increase the cost and limit their application. LÄS MER
