1. Digital Dispersion Equalization and Carrier Phase Estimation in 112-Gbit/s Coherent Optical Fiber Transmission System
Sammanfattning : Coherent detection employing multilevel modulation format has become one of the most promising technologies for next generation high speed transmission system due to the high power and spectral efficiencies. With the powerful digital signal processing (DSP), coherent optical receivers allow the significant equalization of chromatic dispersion (CD), polarization mode dispersion (PMD), phase noise (PN) and nonlinear effects in the electrical domain. 2. New methodology for optical sensing and analysis
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the research I have done, and partly will do, during my time as a PhD student in the laboratory of Applied Optics at Linköping University. Due to circumstances beyond the scope of this book, this incorporates three quite different projects. LÄS MER
3. Optical Detection Using Computer Screen Photo-assisted Techniques and Ellipsometry
Sammanfattning : Two main subjects, ellipsometry and computer screen photo-assisted techniques (CSPT), form the main line in this thesis. Ellipsometry is an optical technique based on the detection of polarization changes of light upon interaction with a sample. LÄS MER
4. Effects of surface plasmons in subwavelength metallic structures
Sammanfattning : The study of optical phenomena related to the strong electromagnetic response of noble metals (silver (Ag) and gold (Au) being most popular) over the last couple of decades has led to the emergence of a fast growing research area called plasmonics named after 'surface plasmons' which are electron density waves that propagate along the interface of a metal and a dielectric medium. Surface plasmons are formed by the coupling of light to the electrons on the metal surface subject to the fulfillment of certain physical conditions and they are bound to the metal surface. LÄS MER
5. Localization effects in ternary nitride semiconductors
Sammanfattning : InGaN based blue and near-ultraviolet light emitting diodes and laser diodes have been successfully commercialized for many applications such as general lighting, display backlighting and high density optical storage devices. Despite having a comparably high defect density, these devices are known for their efficient operation, which is attributed to localization in potential fluctuations preventing carriers from reaching the centers of nonradiative recombination.
