16. POLYPEPTIDES - STRUCTURES AND INTERACTIONS IN MONOLAYERS AND AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis work is to understand and be able to control polypeptide conformation and interactions at interfaces and in solution by changing the solution conditions. For this purpose simple model polypeptides, so-called polyamino acids, have been investigated at the air-liquid interface, as well as in aqueous solutions. LÄS MER
17. Inhibition of Aluminium Pigments for Waterborne Coatings
Sammanfattning : Micrometer-sized aluminium flakes for use as pigments in waterborne coatings need protection, since the reaction between aluminium and water causes formation of aluminium hydroxide and hydrogen gas. The aluminium hydroxide destroys the metallic appearance of the pigment flakes and the evolution of hydrogen gas leads to a dangerous pressure build-up in the paint containers. LÄS MER
18. Protein-surfactant interactions
Sammanfattning : Protein-surfactant interactions in aqueous media have been investigated. The globular proteins lysozyme and bovine serum albumin (BSA) served as model proteins. Several ionic and non-ionic surfactants were used.Fluorescence probe measurements showed that at low sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) concentration (< 0. LÄS MER
19. Protein-Surfactant Interactions in Complex Systems : Study of Physical Stability of Proteins and Peptides
Sammanfattning : My objective has been to characterize protein-surfactant interactions in pharmaceutically relevant formulations. Thus, the behavior of selected excipients, proteins and peptides has been studied as the system in question is driven to the verge of instability in different manners; by inducing aggregation, by inducing surfactant complexation, or by inducing precipitation by increasing ionic strength in the presence of preservative. 20. Association Phenomena Involving Hydrophobically Modified Polymers. Electrostatic and Hydrophobic Contributions
Sammanfattning : The electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions in aqueous solutions of hydrophobically-modified water-soluble non-ionic or ionic polymers, their mixtures with a second polymer, nonionic or of opposite charge, and their mixtures with surfactants of opposite charge have been investigated. The relative strength of the electrostatic and hydrophobic contributions has been modulated by a variation of the polymer charge density and the solution pH, and by a variation in the degree and strength of the hydrophobic modifications, respectively.
