1. Clinical Aspects on Chimney Stent Graft Technique in Endovascular Repair of the Aorta
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Open repair of the aorta carries a high risk for morbidity and mortality especially in the elderly population and in patients unfit for major surgery. Endovascular aortic repair is safe, durable and effective when there is adequate proximal and distal sealing zone for the aortic stent graft. LÄS MER
2. Prevention of beta-cell dysfunction via targeting novel GPCRs in pancreatic islets
Sammanfattning : The primary aim of this thesis was to investigate the role of G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) in insulin secretion and beta-cell survival. The second aim was to determine which pathway is involved in insulin release and beta-cell protection via GPCRs. LÄS MER
3. PLASMA PROTEINS IN NORMAL AND PREECLAMPTIC PREGNANCY
Sammanfattning : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to provide extended background knowledge concerning several biochemical markers, used for the medical evaluation of pregnant women with suspected or confirmed preeclampsia, in order to improve the reliability of monitoring. Plasma levels of beta-2 microglobulin, cystatin C and beta trace protein are known to reflect renal filtration in non-pregnant settings, and the plasma proteins, C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A protein, are known to be sensitive markers of inflammation. 4. Estrogen and Serotonin – old dogs, new tricks, Implications for pancreatic beta-cell function
Sammanfattning : Islet hormone secretion is tightly regulated by metabolic status as well as local and circulating factors. These factors can activate different receptors on the pancreatic islet cells, for instance G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). LÄS MER
5. Stroke in the Long Term. Prognosis, comorbidity, disability, readmission, and the caregiver perspective
Sammanfattning : Background: Stroke is a major cause of mortality and disability. Prognosis is constantly evolving and is affected by multiple factors, many of which have not previously been thoroughly analyzed. LÄS MER
