  1. 1. New Biomarkers for Neuromuscular Function and Myasthenia Gravis

    Författare :Carl Johan Molin; Anna Rostedt Punga; Johan Widenfalk; Nils Hailer; Jan Verschuuren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomarkers; myasthenia gravis; neuromuscular function; neurophysiology;

    Sammanfattning : Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disorder, which is caused by autoantibodies against the acetylcholine receptor (AChR). The cardinal symptom is muscle fatigue, which can range from slight weakness of the extraocular muscles (causing droopy eyelids or double vision), to paralysis of the respiratory muscles. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Spatio-temporal processing of surface electromyographic signals : information on neuromuscular function and control

    Författare :Christer Grönlund; Leif Sörnmo; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; EMG; multichannel surface electromyography; motor unit action potentials; conduction velocity; muscle architecture; signal quality; spatial distributions; synchronization; muscle function; motor control; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Biomedical Radiation Science;

    Sammanfattning : During muscle contraction, electrical signals are generated by the muscle cells. The analysis of those signals is called electromyography (EMG). The EMG signal is mainly determined by physiological factors including so called central factors (central nervous system origin) and peripheral factors (muscle tissue origin). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies on ventilatory function in chronic neuromuscular disorders

    Författare :Jan Weinberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :ventilatory dysfunction; neuromuscular disorders; diaphragm; electromyogram; power spectrum; blood gas; ventilatory mechanics; sleep; polysomnography;

    Sammanfattning : Ventilatory dysfunction is common in neuromuscular disorders (NMD). The present studies aimed at evaluating and developing methods for diagnosis of ventilatory function in NMD. Methods included were diaphragmatic EMG (EMGdi), blood gas monitoring assessed at rest and during exercise and nocturnal respiratory and sleep parameters. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Physical activity, bone density, and fragility fractures in women

    Författare :Undis Englund; Ulrika Pettersson Kymmer; Peter Nordström; Gustaf Bucht; Karl Obrant; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; physical activity; bone density; neuromuscular function; fragility fractures; women; Geriatrics and medical gerontology; Geriatrik och medicinsk gerontologi; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Scandinavia has among the highest incidence of fragility fractures in the world. The reasons for this are unknown, but might involve differences in genetic and/or environmental factors, such as sunlight exposure and levels of physical activity. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neuromuscular injuries and pharyngeal dysfunction in snorers and sleep apnea patients : a study on pathological changes in the human soft palate and its relationship with swallowing dysfunction

    Författare :Farhan Shah; Per Stål; Sture Forsgren; Diana Berggren; Eva Svanborg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Axons; BDNF; desmin; dystrophin; obstructive sleep apnea; OSA; pharyngeal function; muscle; myopathy; neuropathy; Schwann cells; swallowing dysfunction; upper airway; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi; oto-rhino-laryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; patologi; Pathology; molecular cell biology; molekylär cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent progressive sleep disorder with serious negative health consequences. Although several risk factors such as obesity can make an individual vulnerable to develop OSA, the pathophysiological mechanism for the collapse of the upper airway is unclear. LÄS MER
