16. Acoustical Measurements of Material Nonlinearity and Nonequilibrium Recovery
Sammanfattning : A damaged material or a material with non perfect atomic geometry, dislocations or cracks, exhibits two types of characteristic responses to acoustic excitations. First is the fast nonlinear dynamics response that is present as long as the material is excited. As soon as the excitation stops the response disappear. LÄS MER
17. Phase-Contrast X-Ray Imaging of Complex Objects
Sammanfattning : X-ray imaging is a group of techniques using electromagnetic radiation of high energy. The ability to quickly visualize internal structures in thick opaque objects has made it an indispensable tool in research, medicine, and industry. LÄS MER
18. Preserving physical structure of digital objects through metadata
Sammanfattning : In the wake of increased e-government service and overall increase in creation of digital documents, the problem of preserving this kind of "digitally born" material has become imminent. This research focus on how to preserve the physical structure, in other words the layout, colours, logotypes, font characteristics and so on, of digital objects. LÄS MER
19. Interaction of Ultrashort X-ray Pulses with Material
Sammanfattning : Radiation damage limits the resolution in imaging experiments. Damage is caused by energy deposited into the sample during exposure. Ultrashort and extremely bright X-ray pulses from free-electron lasers (FELs) offer the possibility to outrun key damage processes, and temporarily improve radiation tolerance. LÄS MER
20. Simulation of deformable objects transported in fluid flow
Sammanfattning : Deformable particles suspended in a viscous fluid can be found in many industrial and biological applications. In this thesis, two different numerical tools have been developed to simulate suspensions of capsules, thin membranes enclosing a second fluid and a rigid nucleus so to work as model for ”Eukaryotic” cells, and flexible slender bodies known as filaments/fibres.
