  1. 6. The impact of past land-use change on floristic diversity in southern Sweden : a quantitative approach based on high-resolution pollen data

    Författare :Daniel Fredh; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the relationship between land-use and floristic diversity over the last three millennia in the uplands of southern Sweden. A quantitative approach based on high-resolution pollen data was applied, using the Landscape Reconstruction Algorithm (LRA), historical maps/aerial photographs, palynological richness and new ways to estimate past evenness at regional and local spatial scales, which enable estimates of the rate and degree of change in land-use and floristic diversity. 2. 7. Landslide scars in the Kenyan highlands : Physical and chemical topsoil changes and landslide susceptibility assessment under tropical conditions

    Författare :Anna Wahlstrand; Ingmar Borgström; Lars-Ove Westerberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Farmers living in the Kenyan highlands are exposed to the risk of being affected by landslides and they are vulnerable because of lack of resources. Vulnerability can be reduced by increasing knowledge and awareness of the risk. This thesis aims to increase knowledge of landslide-related problems. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Plant community assembly during succession from arable fields to semi-natural grassland

    Författare :Barbara Christine Schmid; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diversity; arable-to-grassland succession; space-for-time approach; land-use history; plant community assembly; grazing management; connectivity measures; dispersal vector; vascular plants; grassland specialist conservation;

    Sammanfattning : Large areas of grazed, species rich semi-natural grassland were lost in Europe during the last two centuries and as a consequence led to decreases in grassland specialist species. Therefore, today the “restoration” of grassland on previously arable fields is recommended for the protection of grassland specialists. LÄS MER
